68 Charger trunk hinge cam

I bought the white trunk sliders to install on my (very early) 68 Charger but when I went to install them, I noticed that the trunk hinge cam where the FSM says that the slider should rest on looks very different from the "box" style in the manual (both left and right hinges have the same set up). Can anyone tell me if these hinges might be from another vehicle? They look and operate fine except for the lack of cam. The torsion bar rests on the hinge now because the cam is so small. Any help would be appreciated.

All I can tell you is in my 68 parts book part number 2842714 was used. In my 69 parts book 2480230 was used. The 68 book clearly shows the 2842714 as Charger only. I would try to find some 68 guys and see if they can post a pic of a 68 hinge set up. Yours might of been a roller that rode in the round formed recess in the hinge arm.

Looking at my parts book there are two different hinges. No notation as to a build date. Some one must have a reference to show.

I also see a difference in the lids torsion bars. The lids are the same. Might of been a very early production. So the plot thickens.

Your "cam" looks more like an "up stop" & the white square block would simply ride on the trunk hinge. The welded on box that myself and others have shown would give more tension on the torsion bar spring and a more positive hold in the full up position. Notice that the spring adjustment slots on yours are also different, both of which I imagine were later production modifications.

You mentioned that it was an early car. If you don't mind me asking, what is the build date of your car?

Hey all, after seeing this post I looked at my trunk hinges and found them to be exactly like Justin"s images. Mine was an early (Sept. 1967) build and this another anomaly to add to a previous post titled (1968 Charger differences), perhaps they used leftover 1967 B body on these early builds or, found them to be quite noisy and modified the hinge.
