68 Coronet 440 Restoration

Its PPG. It was a hassle to get the correct color. I was informed by PPG that LL1 is no longer in their system. Long story short, they had the formula blend and number they gave me. I can copy it and give it to you if you would like.

That would be great, and much appreciated. I've been tempted to change the color, but there is something about this color and the way it changes with light that draws me back.

The rest of the car has finally been painted, still needs the final polishing. And just installed the vinyl top! I'm very excited. Now for the work to begin. I had to give privacy to my body guy. Wasn't sure if he wanted to be shown online.. My body guy filled up a couple inches of rustoleum paint inside the trunk lid and then turned the lid around so the paint can coat the inside nooks and crannies.

That's an interesting way to coat the trunk lid. Have to remember that.

I thought that too. He started taping up all the holes on the trunk lock end of the lid, poured in the paint until the end was filled up to a couple inches of paint inside, then started turning the lid about 45 degrees so we could drain most of it out of the hole that was on the opposite corner of the lid...if my explanation made any sense. LOL

I thought I would post a few small updates. Painted K member, daughter wanted to help paint, so why not??? I not quite finished painting the engine, I ran out of paint...

that's great letting the girl help out. enjoy these times, all too soon she may be lost in cell phones and boys....

Yeah, thats true. Shes 12 going on 21. I'm glad to see that she has interest in the cars. The cell phone and boys are creeping up already. Me and the wife aren't "cool" anymore. LOL

Small update. I tried to be a little sloppy with the factory blackout treatment on the Coronet, I think I did it too neat...

Dude, your coronet is awesome! Wish i was as far along on my charger! A friend of my dads had a coronet almost exactly like yours with a 383/727 and is was a riot to drive. You wont be disappointed :)

Man lots of Mopars getting paint here on FBBO lately, looks great! Gotta love it when the kids get involved especially the daughters.

69chargerboy.....wise decision staying with the color....it looks real nice......i noticed in your very 1st pics, it look to me as if that front bumper fits unusually well...real tight in the cuff...i just caught one corner, but it caught my attention right away. 68 Post Coro, mellow, kwik reving mouse motor w/ a MK V IRS is my aim......a four door has been appealing to me for several reasons...rigidity being key, but i'm sarting to better appreciate 66-67 lines, i think the casr scream for a wedge cut in roof line, overall angularity is perfect..... though i see them being more difficult in realm of bodywerk....there is a lot of hard definite sculpture 66/67 all down sides....whereas 68/69/70 fenders and doors are less complicated easier transitions....with the quarters being the most difficult part of that stretch. Anyway, the color is vibrant...West Coast Mopar had a fresh 68 Coro roller on ebay last year that looked like Yours...same color. same model, had been rotissed....that car caught my eye then and Your's is catching it now.....Home Run!

Another small update, I installed Fat Mat 'Rattle Trap' brand insulation. Does a great job as good or better than Dynamat (in my opinion) and a lot cheaper... And of course I didn't buy enough.... :angry1:

Wow.....gorgeous lay & tuck Man! really tidy looking.

Just found your thread. I love how your car is turning out. I have two 68 Coronet 440 projects so I'm following along with added interest.

How's it coming along this summer? I know the weather hasn't been ideal in Ohio for the last month or so.
