Hi, am restoring my '68 R/T 440 Convertible to stock standard and need info help from members please. Have sourced new rear quarters from a hardtop intending to cut and tuck to suit. Have noticed that the original (although played with at some time) appear to have a slightly more rounded profile to the top of the quarter when gauged across the guard at halfway point of trunk lid. Question is; do production convertible quarters have a slightly different (more rounded) top profile to hardtop quarters? Appreciate any feedback, thanks :)

Hi there,
have you been in contact with Ian Kenyon who owns the '68 Dodge Coronet HEMI ?
He may be still connected with Matamata Panelworks.....

BTW...welcome to FBBO

It did look to me also that they are a bit different.I chose the quicker route which was leave the top and splice just below the major break in the quarter.I did a lap joint but if I were to do it over again I would take the time and effort to butt weld it instead of lap it.Alot of guys on here have successfully installed the full hardtop section though.I think it may depend on whose doing it and their metal working skills.I have found over the years of patch panel replacement is if you keep the lap joint very close to a MAJOR bend in the metal,it is much less likely to move around from heat and show any ghosting lines. Those always show up across a flat,un-reinforced panel.Good luck.
