68 coronet

Welcome to FBBO @Whiskybravo ....from just up the road in Auckland. :D
Looks like you found yourself a nice car here...congrats, and feel free to ask all the questions you need to here. Plenty of knowledge among all these guys on site.

BTW....
The engine no. On the official compliance document is D440828HP
The chassis no. WS23L8E104201
This confirms to me that the "Compliance guys" here are nothing more than revenue collectors.....the guy who recorded a cast number on the block as unique, is obviously a ********. There must be at least a dozen with identical numbers here in NZ at that rate.
I too was screwed over by one of those "Qualified Engineers" doing the certification on my vehicle. No trace of his paperwork anywhere that I was promised...and now I hear that he died a few years ago.

RemCharger is right on the D 440 8 28 HP is what is stamped on the flat spot on the top of the motor in front of the intake on drivers side. D= 1968 8 28 is August 28 assembly date (I assume 1967) and HP for, you know what, HIGH PERFORMANCE.

Hi 4 speed great info just rereading all comments and yours dropped the penny on the flat pad no. I know a few others have tried to tell me to but it's info overload and I'm still sifting through the details. I see now that is exactly what's on the pad as you clearly already knew. So thankyou

My block was cast March of '67 even though it's numbers matching for an April '68 assembly. Your block appears to have been cast only a few months prior to assembly.

I finally understand your comment of course your spot on thankyou for making me dig deeper to understand
