this trim panel would be decent but it's missing 6 of the 12 studs.i'm not sure how you would fix that.otherwise it's in pretty good shape with little pitting and one small dent.looking for either a 68 69 or 70 column.floorshift preferred but i'm always looking for parts also.pm me if interested.thanks,kent.

Sorry for hi-jacking the post, but the pics show what I am asking about. How do you re-produce the rough finish that is on the tail-panel. That finish is also on 68 Roadrunner grilles and part of the 69 headlight trim. Thanks for any help......................MO

That process is indeed very difficult to reproduce.
I can recommend a man in TX (who goes by the name "Mister" on here but isn't on FBBO much) who did mine to factory perfection. His name is Bob:

Yes, that's mine he uses in his ad. Dude is a perfectionist.

In regards to broken studs on these, that's a common malady. If you're CAREFUL, you can drill and tap the holes, then use all-thread rod to screw in new ones, epoxying them in place.

Steve,

Here's the stuff I intend using for the textured argent paint.

1. Bottom of that page says the product is unavailable.
2. It's not correct for the '68 GTX tail panels anyways - the original finish on these is a darker shade and is surprisingly rough to the touch.
Bob @ oldcarpartsdaddy has one of the few remaining stashes of the stuff in the country. Give him a call, he's quite approachable to chat with even if you're not buying something.

I called Bob down in Texas had a chat with him and plan on sending my tail panel to hm for restoration on the recommendation of other FBBO members. This is a tough part to find and/or refinish/restore. But so important to the car.

Crank, sorry to high-jack your thread, but also trying to find a way to re-finish your panel too...............................MO

Ditto. Metro sold a reproduction of this panel for a little while and quickly sold out of them at approx. $900 each.
It's a valuable panel IF restored properly, which the typical argent paints don't do.
Give Bob a call down at Old Car Parts Daddy. The dude is an expert on these.
Hell, look at mine. Doesn't get any better than that and definitely NOT the argent Chrysler used on other parts.

highjack away.good info.here,kent

I bought one of the Metro panels and their taillight bezels also. $775.00 for the finish panel, and $299.00 for the pair of bezels. I told them not to put the argent on because I want to spray it on myself. I bought a quart of "Duracryl" acrylic lacquer Argent Paint from Year One years ago for about $36.00/quart. Maybe I should try to have this stuff "Reverse Engineered" and sell it!
