Dave F. Matt is right, they will start what i call fogging over again, oxidize, But if your powder coating them, and clearing them they should be fine.. I don't have any idea what shade of black myself to paint them, if you change your mind.. The 124 i mentioned is about all i can think of, like i said i do have other compounds but cant really without going back out tonight to tell you the numbers.. I tried them and they didn't help me and then spoke with that guy and i bought the 124.. I almost asked you where you seen mine but i forget about my sig, :) I think the powder coating and clear sounds like they would look great myself. They appear the same metal as mine are, more aluminum/chrome just really dull like the pic i sent you. Ill post the same pic here and maybe someone else can look, maybe there a different metal then yours but the sound of it the same miserable results trying to get them to shine!

They look good. So RON73. What are you going to do with yours after you polish them. I know when you clear them they look hazy. Just was wondering. Thanks.

Dave, my plan is to polish them to a mirror finish, then powder coat the black and then clear powder coat the whole thing. I am going to post pictures through the whole process.

Dave. Are you powder coating them yourself or paying someone? I will wait to see how yours come out. Thanks.

Dave, I do my own powder coating. Been more work than i plan, a lot of small spaces that the buffer won't get into. Had to do them by hand. Hoping to clear powder coat tomorrow, will put up new pictures as soon as i get the final polish done.

Dave im not going to clear them, at least until painted.. If you have ever heard of Dupli-color black chrome, I want to try this on them, these are a extra set for my car and im curious as how they will turn out with this stuff.. Otherwise, all i can do is keep wax on them and keep them as nice as possible.. why would they look hazy clearing them? You would need to get all wax and polish from them, It sounds like you have done it before so i guess you would know, id think if all old wax and impurity's were removed they would look good, not the first time id be wrong lol.

Here is what it looks like after I have it stripped and sanded, next step is to polish it. I have about 3 hours into it.

Hi Dave. So thats were I was confused. You powder coated them clear RIGHT? I thought you were going to use a chrome looking powder coating not polish them and CLEAR them with powder coat. They look great. I guess I will powder coat them clear myself. Thanks for your updates. :blob1:

They look great Dave and thanks for the heads up! I have a question about your powder coating these, Not fully understanding this yet, Is there a reason you couldn't paint the parts that need it and then powder coat both? Thanks...

Ron,
Since you are cooking at 400 you would have to use high temp paint. The reason i didn't clear over the paint is i wanted the black satin. Even if i had painted flat, shooting clear on top would give me a gloss. Powdercoating is a real good primer for paint.

Thanks Dave... I didn't think here, yep, the gloss would mess up your satin black, sorry.. I kept thinking it was gloss black. Didn't know that it made good primer... My lesson for the day! lol.. thanks.

that looks great! That powder coating is something, that shine should stay looking good for years to come. now i cant wait to see it matched up on the painted car.. Your grill would look good done up like that!

Looks great! Real nice work...... Certain paint Manufacture's make Flat or Semi Gloss clear coat's, Sikken's is one of them....just throwing it out there.

That came out real nice. Good job Dave.
