trying to replace my p/s box and am wondering if you need to remove the steering column? removed the pin from the column to box adapter but it wont go back far enough to get the shaft off of the box, or do i pull the box to k member bolts and try and slide it off then? anyone?

steering column needs to be dropped out,lay it back on the seat.i took my box out through the top, loosened off n/s engine mount lifted out past the battery.sometimes the tray needs to come out.i also popped the pitman arm off

I usually unbolt the column, pull the rag joint apart, gonna rebuild/inspect anyway, pull the pitman arm, unbolt 3 mounting bolts and pull it out from underneath. I have manifolds and power steering and don't need to pull the starter. Headers won't be as easy.

I changed mine 2 months ago on a '68 chager. I was able to knock the pin out, and pry on the coupler to get it off the input shaft of the box. I then unbolted the steering box and pulled it out from the bottom. it was a real pain in the (_|_) my smashed fingernails have almost grown out.
