68 Road Runner Carb replacement

I just bought my first Mopar, a 1968 Road Runner, and it looks like it needs a new carb. I want to stick with the Carter 4bbl. Any suggestions regarding where to buy it? I've found several suppliers, including Rock Auto and Classic Industries.

Also, what does AVS or AFB mean?

I am planning on buying a carb. Is there any reason to keep the old core? Are there numbers that tie the original carb to the car? I'd like to be as original as possible, and would have the old carb rebuilt if it is meaningful.

I don't know if you have an automatic or manual 440 or 383 carb numbers mean something only if the car is all original.. If its original 440 car manual then its a 4428S if its a automatic its a 4429. If it is a 383 Auto or manual two more numbers would apply..

I should have thought this through better. Yes, it is a 383 Automatic. I know it's had the radiator replaced, so it will never be totally original. I'd like to keep it close, so I will keep the core Carb.

AVS stands for Air Valve Secondary
AFB stands for Aluminum Four Barrel

back in the day, Carter also produced a WCFB which stands for White Cast Four Barrel.

I read I stood for "Will (William) Carter Four Barrel" named after the founder.
