68 road runner restoration, don't laugh its paid for.

Jeff,

I just read this thread from the beginning. Awesome Road Runner, I love the color combo and the look with those 17" wheels. What size tire did you go with on them?

Good luck,
Mark

Ive noticed you are from georgia and russ is from lawrenceville where i bought my r/t charger from a guy named william c roy can either of y IMG_0506.jpgou help me out to find a ny info on this guy or car

Got the wheels and tires on to check fitment. I like it. I know theyre 17s but at least I bought a fat tire. I got the exhaust on too. I used magnaflows it sounds great. I found out im missing the park lamps that go in the front bumper, can someone please help me find some. I bought new lenses so they arent important just need the housings. Thanks in advance.

SO that's what the 17" Magnum's look like on our body style :) I LIKE!!!

Mark, i used 275/40s on front and 285/40s on rear. The tire Is just a touch wider than the rim. It looks natural on the rim.. Year one got the backspacing and width perfect. Even a couple of older guys that saw the car commented about how natural they looked on the car.

Steven, the name doesnt ring a bell but ill talk to my dad about it. Im down on the coast in ga, so im not close to him, dad lives about 250 miles away

It would seam that I need to upgrade my last post to "THAT IS SWEET". I really, really, really, really, really like it now, did you lower it from the previous pics or are the tires just that much bigger? How about a good pic from the side, I'm still undecided on wheel size but really like that. Awesome

Took her for a spin this am. Truely a flashback. Lol took a few pics in a parking lot to see the wheels and tires. Im gonna work on it all day if anyone else needs something different in a pic. I lowered the front about 2 inches and left the rear how it was.

That really looks sharp, if you didn't replace the rear leafs maybe they are just sitting a little lower? Whatever the case "I like it".

I still see the new sticker on your right tire, you need to burn that off. LOL Your car has a great stance.

I PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM MIKE BRANDON AT DIXIE DREAM CARS IN LAWRENCEVILLE I KNOW IT WAS ON THE AUCTION BLOCK FOR A LONG TIME I THINK FROM 2006 TILL I BOUGHT IT IN 2012. WHAT IS VERY STRANGE ABOUT THIS CAR IS THE WHITE TRIANGLE ON THE ROOF.THE CAR WAS LAST PLATED IN 1981 AND WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE SAT SINCE THAN WITH A BLOWN TRANNY.THE TRANNY PART IS TRUE FROM WHEN I REMOVED FROM CAR AND HAD IT REBUILT.AT ONE TIME THEY WERE ASKING 25 K FOR THIS CAR I ONLY PAID 5500 FOR PLUS I TOOK A ROAD TRIP TO PICK IT UP.

Did you get the 2" dropped spindles or is the front lowered with the torsion bars?

Hey Jeff, the car is looking great. Any luck with the front turn signals yet?
You asked for some pictures of my current drag car project so here you go. I'll try to keep this short since it isn't a B body. It is a '67 A100 van. It is being built to look like it was built in 1969. It will have a 513 cubic inch RB engine that looks like a 426 max wedge. The tranny is a 727. It has an 8-3/4 rear end with 3.91 gears and a spool mounted on leaf springs with ladder bars. I moved the front springs under the straight axle to lower the front about 4 inches. It will be candy apple green when it is done. The first picture is the mock up engine when I was just starting to build the motor mounts. The engine is moved back 18 inches and down 6 inches from where the original slant 6 was. The second picture is the van before I started on it. The last picture is the engine that I will be using to dial in the chassis. I also threw in a picture of my '64 sport fury that I hope to start on someday. It doesn't look like much now but it is a documented 426 wedge 4-speed car.

love the Fury and we gotta see more of that van!

Hyrdgoon, I just turned the tortion bars. Im gonna get an alignment now that ive set the ride height.

Al, havent found any park lamps yet. The vans gonna be way cool. I love the 64 too. My dad bought a 64 sport fury with a 426 wedge new in 64. He found the exact same car a few years ago but the guy wanted a little more this time around. Lol

How wide are the 17's? Both 8's? 9's? Thanks

They are all 17 x 9's tried to buy 8s for the front but they didnt have them. They dont look too wide on the front and they havent rubbed yet.

They look GOOD!! Was thinking of going with these on my 68 GTX but never really seen them on anything till now..but I like!! Beautiful RR!! Any rubbing issues in back?

Thanks man, im really happy with it so far. The rear tires havent rubbed yet. It doesnt look like I even need to roll the lip on the qtr panel. Theres about 1/2 to 3/4 in. Between the tire and qtr. Ill take a few closeups of the wheel tomorrow.

Jeff, if you look at the picture of the road runner that I took in 1979 it has a set of 14 X 9 Fenton S/S mags with L60 tires on the back. That setup did not rub on the road runner but when I put them on the sport satellite, they rubbed the fender lip right at the widest part of the tire. I never could figure that out.

I bled the brakes this am and painted the drums black. I finally put the center caps on the wheels and took her for a spin and the rear broke.i hear pieces rattling in the chunk when I decelerate. Im thinking its a broke spider gear. Dang it I was looking forward to finally putting some miles on it.
