Evenin fellas. I thought you might get a kick out of the chassis work done to a car I just picked up a couple a months ago. '69 Belvedere that's been minitub'd w/ a 4 link. Coil overs are by QA1, but not sure who made the 4-link set up. It's kind of a back half car - but they did it with factory floor / trunk. I've never seen a setup like this before. What do you guys think, is this a great idea or a disaster waiting to happen? Check out how they cut the new frame rails and the cross member right into the floor pan.

Some of the welds aren't the "pertiest" things, but the overall system looks functional, what size are the heim/spherical joint ends ??, hopefully they are 5/8" or larger, does it have a track locater or Watts linkage, cant tell by the pitchers.... I would suggest you put 1/8"-3/16" plate & maybe also some gussets, welded between &/or on the sides of all the suspension brackets on the rear axle, if you plan on putting any major power to the ground...

I build 4links like this all the time correctly!Don't get me wrong. In no shape or form is that done correctly. The brkts are chris alston truck brkts. They are setup for a 2x3 crossmember. The rear shocks are a 12" shock with 5.6" travel usually.I build these for lets just say outlaw guys. They can still retain the back seat with full interior. They look like a caltrac setup to the common foke.I have this setup on my personal ride. What you have their is a bad copy of.If you want to keep this setup shoot me a pm.I can give you part numbers and build specs.Maybe a couple of pics of things done correctly!

Here is what they are suppose to look like!

Mopar Poor yours look much more neater, and secure! I weld here myself but with things such as this, I always would get my brother in law to do it for me if i used these, i don't trust my skills in welding to much. Ive welded panels such as 17 and 20 gauge metal for trunks and body panels, but im a little timid with things like this.. I did weld a bracket plate on a Chevelle frame that is still there and secure but it looks about as bad as could be imagined as far as neatness..

I'm def not a welder by any means, so thanks a lot for the tips. Truthfully, my original concern was that most 4 links I've seen are back half cars and are supported by a 10pt roll cage while this relies on the unibody.

Bud - Now that you mention the need for gussets, I see what you mean. It has a panhard rod that ties into the axle on the driver's side behind the 4 link (you can see the rod end in the pix) and into a bracket on the frame on the pass side. I'm not putting crazy power to the ground at all - I'd guess she has in the neighborhood of 500hp-550hp. With that kinda power, stock wells and suspension would've been fine but maybe he was building for the future. It's a 1972 413 block that the guy claimed was a stroker but had no paperwork as he'd only had it a few months and the prior owner did the work. By my admittedly novice standards, it has a pretty aggressive cam and is kind of a monster but I haven't confirmed what's in it yet.

Mopar - I appreciate any advice you could give on how you would've done it. Honestly, the car will only see limited track time - about once or twice a year tops and even then I doubt I'll beat on her too bad. That being said, it's gotta be done right.
