Hey Guys. I may have found my car not 100% sold on it yet and need to contact the seller but need some input.

https://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/5858737893.html

1st - I'd get rid of the whole Gen Lee theme (sell stickers, push bar, rims, antenna...etc...)
2nd - Buy factory correct Magnum 500 Rims, replace horn with orig. style. What else would I need?
3rd - Was hemi Orange available as an exterior color in 69?

Based on the Fender Tag Did I decode it correctly?

X2...@ $40k I think you could find a rotisserie, numbers matching car that would not require you to do anything but put gas in and drive....or if you are looking for a nice driver (non #s), I would think you could find one & save $10k...
Nice car otherwise...

Thanks! So VX1 = Black Vinyl Roof which was part of the White Hat Special (A41: 69 only White Hat Special w/vinyl roof)

V1X=Black vinyl top.
$40G's or don't waste my time not in my world....... just my.02

Thanks! That's the problem though as I've been looking since July, which I know isn't all that long based on some people saying it took 3 years to find their car. Just hoping I can find a 68-69 (ideally 69) over the winter and be ready to roll in the spring.

I would pass, you could get a 4-speed that wasn't General Lee-Screwed probably for that price or cheaper if you're not worried about #s. And if you're good with an auto and non-#s... you can still get one plenty cheaper than that.

judging by your avatar...you're really into it.

there's something called "search tempest" which scans all of craigslist...you can put the search parameters in and also a site called militia which will send alerts also

Didn't you say your max budget was way under 40k?

for 40 grand you can find a nicer car needing nothing and probably a r/t for that price, that is pricey for a plain jane charger though,i was going spend 40 grand i am not buying anything less than a real r/t with paper work and fender tag if i can,but roger we can not spend your money, you have to do that yourself.hang in there.

Eh, not really in to GL. My Avatar is based on my nickname (The Rebel) which I've had since High School.

Yep been using Auto Tempest, which does scan CL.

Based on my research it seems restored base Chargers that basically need no work on them go for $40K and RT's are about $50K, so I've had to up my budget. Of course if I can find one for less than $40K that meets my requirements then that will be a huge plus.

Do you have a link to the site militia, as there are way too many hits that are Military based.

roger, is the charger the only car of your choice?

Ideally #'s matching is my goal if at all possible. I've decided that Automatic will be a better fit for me as here in CT the traffic is terrible and I don't live in a rural area.

Chargers are my 1st Choice, SB's 2nd choice & RRs are my 3rd.

I'm looking for Red Exterior, Black interior, Center Console, Auto, PS, PB, Non-AC as I don't see a reason to use it. 383-4bbl or 440-4bbl.

Then for 40 grand without any negotiation.. I wouldn't see an issue with you finding a numbers matching.. even for a little less than that! At least around the center states! You see some listed under that and most are negotiable.. if you're in favor of the 68's, that would help. Which you might not be, but I actually like their rear views a bit better.

One '69 local https://tulsa.craigslist.org/cto/5828824700.html , but its a negotiable 69 that needs a bit of floor pan work... RT #s matching though.. could get it well under 40 grand most likely, but needs a little work it seems which you might not be looking to do even for an RT

68's are ok with me as well. I'm only partial to 69 as that's when I was born, 47 years ago tomorrow (11/5) LOL!

Base model, SE or RT's are all in my sites.

This is an example of what I'd like to get NOT looking for clones though.

I saw during my research some really nice 68s & 70s at a resonible price. I still think you would be able to find a #s matching 69 car for 40k though.
I'm just trying to understand what you are looking for though...you say your not interested in clones but would be willing to have an incorrect motor, 383 to a 440???
Is this an investment, dream car, driver or all of the above? My advice is to be patient and keep looking its out there somewhere. Good luck!

I know sounds crazy but what I don't like is the fact that I'd be driving something it's not. As far as a different engine than what the car was born with I feel that I could sacrifice that part based on so many people back in the day swapped out motors, like a 318 to a larger engine. At the end of the day it's a non-clone Charger.

I didn't talk to the owner but was thinking if the car had all of the options based on the fender tag & the only thing that was not correct was the engine, paint & vinyl roof then overall I could live with that.

Not an investment car but something to drive & enjoy. I'm going to continue to look with the hopes that I can get closer to what I want.

Lol at $40k

The battery and wiring doesn't look very good. Rear bumper looks to have pitting. Firewall arch looks suspect. A/C car without A/C. Detroit car? With everything that is wrong with it, i would not take his word that the body is clean.
