69 Charger single wire alt

installed a March serpentine siystem with single wire alt on a 440 6pak. I’ve been told that the voltage regulator is not needed? My problem is my battery is not charging. Alt is producing 14.7 volts but it’s not getting to the battery. I’ve been told that I need to route a wire directly from the alt to the batt and no fuse protection is needed or voltage regulator due to the alt having these items built into it. Is this accurate?

Did your charging system work B4 you changed everything? Who manufactured the alternator you installed? When you said single wire, one would assume its the output connection. Powermaster uses an internal regulator similar to GM's design, which uses an internal diode trio to make the rotating field excitation voltage via an internal regulator and brush holder assembly. These types of alternators are difficult to troubleshoot due to no accebility. If it does not charge, its a possibility that either the internal field voltage generating components or the internal regulator is defective. Perhaps the Powermaster proponents can explain just how they work or can supply an internal component diagram . Just my opinion of course.

The alt. is fine,if it is putting out 14.7. volts. The problem is in the circuit that eventually ends up at the battery through the bulkhead connector. The connector is a known trouble spot where the black wire from the alt. goes through, and the other connection with the fusible link that connects to the starter relay, and then goes to the pos. battery terminal. Check the connector, fusible link, all connections , ammeter etc. A wiring diagram would help.

On every 1 wire alt I've changed to I had to install a wire between the bat and alt. Most were GM type
