My dad has a 69 Coronet R/T, stock intake manifold with Edelbrock Thunder AVS model 1812 (manual choke). I put this on for him a few year ago and it runs great. However, I would really like to get rid of the manual choke for him for originality reasons. Looking at pictures, it looks like the factory thermostatic choke (that was missing when he bought the car years ago as it had a manual choke Holley on it) might work with a little tweaking with the choke arm on the Edelbrock. Before I spend 50 bucks on a new choke, has anybody had experience making this work?

Thanks,

Tyler

if you can find a mopar avs donor carb for parts pretty sure it will work. you'll need the pull-off, the rod that runs across the top of the secondaries (pretty sure what you have won't work), a nipple for the choke pull-off, and the choke well thermostat.

I adapted an 800 cfm Edelbrock carb to work with the factory choke system on my GTX. I did use parts off of an old Carter AVS. The main problem was the choke shaft on the Edlebock carb is different than the old Carter shafts and I had to fabricate a small lever to mount on the end of it, that is secured with a small screw in the end. Then there was some tweaking of the link rod and experimentation on clocking the lever to the shaft. Kind of a shade tree mechanic job but it works.
