69 glovebox won’t latch

Wrapping up the restoration of the dash from my 69 charger while it’s out of the car. When I bought the car the glovebox was open and wouldn’t stay closed but I didn’t care as the car is getting a full resto.
Now that I’m finishing the dash, I do care and I can’t get the glovebox to latch.
The push button lock retracts nicely and the catch on the lower frame seems good as the spring bar pops up fairly strongly. I’ve adjusted the frame catch all the way out to the front and when I slowly close the glovebox door I can hear the push button catch click out when it gets below the bar, but if I let it go the door still springs open.
The frame catch has a notch in the middle on one side; I’m assuming that notch faces out towards the passenger seat?

Any tips would be appreciated
 
Hmmm…. Maybe take the catch off completely and see if you can make the latch catch it by hand? If no, replace latch. If yes, modify screw holes to allow it to adjust further. Just an idea
 
Dang things always were a "slam several times" affair, least on the old cars I've had.
Not a great design to be sure.
I just had to fool with mine on Fred (old latch/pushbutton puked all over the place) and figured I'd
splurge on a new set with key (comes with the trunk lock also, keyed alike).
Repop unit, Chrysler licensed and all....and it's pretty much junk, not to mention $100.

I had to literally work on the new latch to get it functional, then pulled the catch bar out of the car
and hammered it flatter to help as well....
Finally got it to latch by adjusting it so the latch just barely cleared the bar, then went after the trunk
lock - only to find the previous owner felt the need to totally mud over that part of the trunk lip before
painting.
Argh.
Decided since it all worked fine back there (and not wanting to dig into whatever mud is in there) to
leave that be, so I have two round-headed keys now - which I didn't want to begin with.
Sheesh.
 
I had the same thing when I bought my Charger. The catch was on backwards. Take it off and rotate it 180 degrees.
 
I’ve tried it both ways and have the same issue. I’m assuming the correct orientation is with the notch in the catch base facing out?
I’ll give shimming the catch up with a couple of small washers a shot
 
I am guessing your door hinge is slightly bent. You should not have to shim the catch. How does door alignment look? Open door and tweak the hinge in the proper direction to allow alignment with catch.
 
Ok...alignment can look good and still not be in range of catch. I still recommend giving the hinge a tweak. This always works for me. You can always adjust door slightly afterwards.
 
You can actually get a pretty close feeling for the alignment with your fingers up behind/under there if you
follow the door down/back with your fingertips, to the point of having a good idea of the alignment of
latch to catch.
Once I beat the catch bar to where it was level and flat across, I brought it forward on the screws to the
point where I could be sure of the latch engaging it, then tapped it back a couple times to get the door
closed some more each time.
