I just purchased a used 1969 rallye Dash frame. I want to sand/repaint before assembly. Going to be using original black. Wondering if anyone knew exactly what color and tint/Finish(satin/flat,etc) was original. Thanks

Rustoleum "textured" black - available at Walmart is a PERFECT match. Because you don't want the finish too coarse its best to coat the frame first with a flat or satin finish - either or. Then lay on a single coat of the textured. Bingo - done!

Or you can take other advice, **** around trying to find all the components, buy minimum quantities as well as the necessary spray equipment ... and end up with worse results.

Your call !!

And ... the factory finish is NOT satin black !!! Or "satin" any other color for that matter. It is a SUEDE finish with a "suede" additive in the paint - which the Rustolem "textured" contains!

How is the durability? Do I need to clearcoat it with anything?

Just what do you do on the dash that "durability" would be a concern ?!?!?

Sun? UV rays? Here in Colorado it raises hell unless stored inside most of the time.
I have always re-done the dashes with a base color of your choice (base color from a 2 part gun shot system, no rattle can) then rattle can SEM matte clear dusted high and dry. 3-4 coats until the sheen of your liking is achieved. Turns out perfect every time.
