69 road runner Fuel Gauge not working!

I have installed another temperature gauge and still no movement. I am getting pulsating power via test light at the multi-pin connector on the circuit board with the violet wire making contact. This tells me the circuit is moving through the board and the gauge. I have yet again pulsating power at the sending unit connector plug. I don't think I could have two bad temp gauges especially when both are said to be functional. Do the senders in the water pump housings generally go bad? I'm going to install a new one and see what happens. Is there anything I am missing regarding this? What's left?

Yes, the temperature sending unit was bad. It has been a learning process but all my gauges are now funcitonal. Thanks to everyone involved in helping me!!! God Bless You All!

not trying to hijack this thread, but it was helpful reading this. but on my fuel guage, i hooked up the ground clip(was missing) back at the sender at the tank...the needle moves a little bit but not much...still on E. what gives?

Uncle Don, It could be you are getting current to the gauge but not enough. Make sure your ground clip is not rusty at all. I recommend you start at the tank and trace back to the instrument panel. If no wiring problems are found then remove the instrument panel. From there I would remove the speed nuts that hold the gauge in and lightly scuff the contact point on the circuit board with some 600 grit sandpaper just to ensure good contact. This is just a start but generally speaking, perform the easier checks first.

i had to "make my own" grounding strap as my tank was put in new by previous owner and did not have a ground. is there a sure solid way to ground your tank? can i go straight from my tank to the body? or do i have to attach back to the gas line?? any pics of this would also help....thanks for input.

It looks really nice with no imperfections. Is it normal for test light to flash when grounding the sender plug or should the light remain constant?
Are you using your test light for grounding? If you are that won't work. You have to use a solid wire, the bulb in your test light works like a resistor and gives you a false reading...

I'll know next time. Thanks!
