Just installed a 440 in my 69 roadrunner, it has a scatter shield, problem is the starter does not seam to line up with the flywheel. I have had it working where it engage at least 80 times, now to try an aligne the splines on the starter and flywheel is like a hit and miss situation ( New Starter tourque master ) Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think most of the scattershields have two starter locations to accommodate both sizes of flywheels. There should also be two positions for the cup that supports the starter's snout inside the scattershield. That may be loose, missing, or in the wrong position.

I changed my stater a few months ago and it had a plastic cover where the power wires get connected, In my case you had to remove the cover and connect the wires directly to the electrical posts so the case of the starter would clear the bell housing..........The starter is made for multipule applications.

Let me know if this helps, good luck

I was looking at that, the only thing that baffles me, is that i had no problem with this last year. When i put the new motor in same flywheel now i have issues ( this is a new mini starter power master 9613 ) I now have 2 of them, guess i got a spare. I looked at the cup, maybe like you said might be out of alignement. It seems that when you tighten the bolts it still does not engage ( just a whinning noise ) will try adusting the cup, there is just 2 holes not sloted " Thanks for the info will try some more adjusting "

Please dont take this as gospel, I heard this from others. But they say the new starters on the newer v-8's [Dakota] are mini-starters, and will fit the older engines. It's said they also have more than enough torque for the stroked BB's. I'd rather go this route if this is true. I had nothing but problems with a "universal" tilton for an odd cheby application of mine. Remember..."Universal parts don't fit anything!"
