'69 RR (HULK) Restoration - All new to me

This is all new to me. I have never worked on a car in the past, let alone taken on a restoration of this magnitude. But, there's no time like the present and it's time to get started and learn.

I've dubbed my car HULK. I'm a MARVEL fan and this is my favorite character. Plus, the car is green.

Little about it. My father bought it brand new, from what I know. His passing left it to me and it has been in storage for a little over a decade. My wife and I built a house and I convinced her, not sure how, to build a 4-car garage so I can work on it. Let's just say she's a good woman.

If you have ANY (and I mean ANY) suggestions/tips for work on this please feel free to share. Luckily, I have some awesome local resources to help with questions. But, all is welcomed and appreciated.

I'll quit my gum flapping and show some pics of moving it and what I've done so far. I am a labeling fool with just about every screw/bolt I've removed.

I got lucky that there was still air in the tires. Otherwise this might not have been as easy to get up on the trailer.

There's little to no rust on the floor. Someone was looking out for me. Not entirely sure how that happened.

Not so lucky with the trunk. I'd rather have it here than the floor under the seats though.
 
Nice looking car but I thought you said it was green. Looks blue to me. Or are you going to paint it green? Everything looks good and solid but what you mentioned about the trunk. So that will help you keep your budget low which will make the wife happy. The interior panels look like all they need is a good cleaning. I see markings on the rear backrest. Are you going to paint that area and put back the markings? A new windshield and vinyl top and a little touch-up on the outside and it's ready to go. Did it have the 383? Good luck with it.
 
that is a super solid car! you are a lucky man! there are lots of guy's on here top help you out. Propwash has a great thread with lots of pics to inspire you. the best thing to do is decide what you want, then make a plan but understand when you are redoing a car plans can be a bit of a moving target! also don't get frustrated just take the time it takes and you will be happy with the result.

The car is kind of a teal/green. I guess it's a little difficult to tell by the pictures. But, I don't want to make it a solid green. Gotta find the best color for what I'm wanting. But, I have a feeling I'll come across it and decide.

I plan on painting as much as possible. I like it when things are done right the first time. I've had poor experience in the past when something is half-assed. With the markings, not sure what they indicate. But, it wouldn't hurt to put them back. Kind of give some more authenticity.

And yeah, it has the 383. I am going to see if it'll start up within the next few weeks. I didn't realize getting to the spark plugs would be such a PITA.
 
Your dad bought it new? Very cool, it stays in the family and you know the history of the car. Congrats and welcome to the board.
 
As mentioned above, "don't get frustrated and take the time it takes". On average, guys will question their endeavor two or three different times during the process. Each time, you stop what you are doing and tell yourself, "I can do this." You will find 'the journey' (mine was three years) as rewarding as the end results.

Is that a rear window defrost assembly hanging down behind the back seat? I would hang on to that option.

Looks like you have great 'bones' to start with. Good Luck and take LOTS of photos (multiple angles) prior to disassembling anything! They are invaluable as references when putting stuff back together.
 
Looks like a great project and pretty solid indeed! Also looks to be the original paint color. First couple things I would recommend to do is look for the broadcast sheet. That will tell you (by means of alphanumeric codes) what options that car came with. Typically that is located between the springs and the padding on the underside of the rear seat. Another thing you want to do is see if there is a fender tag. That is located under the hood on the left forward inner fender. That also has codes detailing options on the car. If you have those, put them in a safe place. Having them both makes a difference value wise and being able to prove what options the car has and came with from the factory. There are plenty of folks here that will be able to decode those numbers for you. As far as your paint, it looks to be the original from what I can see. The color of it could possibly be Q5 Seafoam Turquoise, or possibly B5 blue (hard to tell-my monitor sucks!) IMO both beautiful colors for that car, especially with the hood stripes. That fender tag will have either a B5 or Q5 on it somewhere.

Sounds like you're off to a good start with the labeling and bagging everything. Very good idea. The more organized you are, the smoother your resto will go. Look forward to your resto kicking off and there are plenty of real good guys here that have "been there, done that", and will be willing to help you along the way, and been handing you some real sound advice thus far. Best of luck bringing your dad's ride back to pavement. Very Cool!
 
the color is Q5 Sea foam Turquoise poly. really nice car. your a lucky man!
 
yea, i see the 1st thing to be removed back in the day was the radio! you know, that trunk mat might have been a culprit to the rust in the trunk. nice solid car otherwise :) when i disassembled my 69 RR, i tagged and bagged everything too. also take detailed notes of wiring location or draw diagrams of parts before disassembling.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I actually have your restoration post bookmarked. Gave/gives me inspiration to know what it can and will look similar to one day.

And it is the Q5 color code. I'll look for the broadcast sheet tonight to see what I find.
 
Sorry hearing about your Dad, He gave you a nice present, IMO, suggestion, Get it running, replace the parts to make it a solid safe driver including rust, then go interior cosmetics to make it comfortable and clean. Then Enjoy!! No full restoration at this time. Just enjoy!!! You will feel that your father is with you in the car.
 
Very nice car, I owned a 69 RR new in 69 I always wished I kept it it was a triple black 4 speed car. I am sure your father would be real proud of your restoration efforts
 
Nice find! As I was looking at it, I thought: "hey...those look like old WA plates!" Sure enough....
 
Very nice looking car and should be an easy restoration. Q5 with a black top is a great color on these cars IMO.
 
You know you can't use the fuel tank right? To start it first try to turn it by hand. If it turns run gas line into coffee can. Fuel tank needs to be removed and cleaned. Great car. Keep the color.

Super, super RR. Q5 is an amazing color on these cars and with your black vinyl top, perf hood paint, and interior will set it off beautifully. I second the motion to clean her up, get her running and enjoy; especially if this is your first experience. She's not that bad at all. Perform some minor restoration for safety and reliability sake and get that bird on the road! I've convinced my dad to do the same thing with a 69 Mach I he picked up. You car looks damn good compared to the average yard bird found these days! Good luck with your RR whichever way you go. FBBO is the best and the folks here are top notch.
 
Nice Car I have a 1969 Coronet 500 that I started restoring and cloning to an R/T in April of 2013. I found that EBAY is a nice fast way to get parts sort of cheap! A lot have free delivery to your house sweet. Good Luck Tim
