69 SS convertible

been looking at the great work you're doing on this. You never know how much rust is really there till you get into the nitty-gritty.

Haven't updated in awhile, camera is broken. I have been doing bodywork on fenders, cowl, and quarter panel tops. For me, this means applying bondo then sanding it off. Then repeat numerous times! I really wish I had taken a bodywork class. Anyway, I now have the car ready for SPI epoxy and quick sand. I'll try to post pics when camera gets fixed.

awsome work, i am in need of quarter work. I have replaced the floor in my 69 RR so i'm no stranger to that kind of work. the question is it better replace the whole quarter or to skin it. any advice welcome.

I would think it is better to replace the whole panel. That way it is more factory appearing and you don't have that seven foot long butt weld to contend with. As far as the work involved, i'd say it's a wash. With a whole panel you have to fit it to the trunk, the roof, and the dutchman. Some have had to really rework these areas. The skins fit really well, only minor tweaking. I don't really know though as I haven't done a whole quarter before. The reason I used skins is that they don't make whole quarters for a convertible. This was the first time I have replaced a quarter and I was really apprehensive, but with alot of reading and research, I dove in. I'm happy to say it's really not that hard. Go slow and trial fit everything before you start welding.

Thanks. this one has rust issues as well. Little by little they will be repaired. It's amazing what can be done with time, patience, and money!

Not that kind of SS!!!:angry1:.........and I don't think you can say the C word on here either.................Just kidding:grin:

Resized a couple more pics to post. After blocking the first round of primer, I put on two more coats of primer and blocked with 180 then 320 dry. After that, I covered the body in white epoxy. Here's where i'm at now. Hoping to paint drivers side jamb and door tomorrow.

Been making slooooow but steady progress. Shot sealer then finally color!!! Pretty happy with the results. No runs but does have a fair ammount of dust/trash. Looks like I'll be color sanding and buffing. I better read up on those subjects. It will be the first time doing that too! rsz_sealer_and_color_014.jpgrsz_sealer_and_color_017.jpgrsz_sealer_and_color_018.jpg
