Have an interesting situation. Have a 69 Superbee with , I think, all the oe parts including numbers matching engine and trans. However, the 383 and the 4 sp were swapped out for what looks like a 1970 HP 440 with it's ser number matching 4 sp. The 440 was set in the car a long time ago and never hooked up. The orig 383 and 833 sat out for years.

I now have the engine here and the car is coming later. I have the engine and trans all redone and am now trying to sort out which are the correct 383 ancillary parts. The car has the N96 (?) hood and oval air cleaner. Need detail pics of what the engine should look like. Plug wire holders, all brackets, which breather, casting numbers for the correct ex manifolds, which fan (got 3 with the parts basket) etc.

Cool thing is I appear to have a complete HP 440 drive train with HP ex and 4 sp in addition to all the numbers match stuff for my car. Will make a nice package for someone to restore their 70 B body.

All help/photos greatly appreciated.

post some pics of the 440 vin number on the block please.

I don't have it here yet and won't for quite a while, but I do know the car that it came out of was scrapped. It appears I have the HP exhaust manifolds off it with the 383, casting date of May/70.

Correct exhaust manifolds are 2843992-1 Left and 2808900 Right. '69's are different with the right having the heat riser facing the fender, not 90* to it like the '70 and exhaust head pipe flange orientation is different between '69 and '70.

Radiator would be a 22" x 2949053

The valve covers on the engine when I got it have the breather on the right hand cover, assuming the one with the plug wire supports and harness straps spot welded to the cover is correct on the right side. The breather in it had 3 pipes coming off it. PCV was on the left and was the old style curved metal tube. I don't have the air cleaner here, but from what I see in your pics all this is incorrect. The manifolds on it were definately 70 based on casting date and have provisions on the lh for the heat stove. There are two other sets of manifolds in the trunk. These casting numbers will ensure they send the right ones. Are the locations of the plug wires supports the same 69-70? Was your ground strap at the rear attached to one of the valley pan bolts or to that unused bolt hole in the head? Thanks for the help.

This is what it looked like when I got it. The Vin stamping matches the car which matches the dealer invoice we got with the car. Deck pad is stamped 383 HP. si I'm assuming they swapped covers etc. Also, what fan should be on this. I got 2 clutch fans and one none. The none seems like it might be right because there were 4 long fan and hub bolts with the engine. There is a part number stenciled on the fan, but I'm not at the shop.

Take a look at the Hoffman's Winners Circle website as it is a good source for showing the correct location of the various heat shields, plug wire configurations, alternator brackets, etc for the various year model configurations.

Bear in mind that there can be variations based on the production date and assembly date. Depending upon the direction of the restoration, that will help to steer you in more of the correct direction if your going to the extent to do a truly "OE" restoration. If your intent is to make the car as correct as possible, seek out nice original samples of cars built at the same assembly plant and from the time frame.

As you are doing now, ask questions and post pictures as there is a lots of knowledge that can be obtained from this site. And the most important thing to remember is to do it the way that is going to make you the happiest as you have to live with it.
