69 Superbee Hemi Orange white tail stripe

Ha.. Too techy for me. I will take your word. So the upper radiator core support, needs welded in. I need to get them to do that before color.

Don't take my word for anything! Alan is a wealth of info and if he told you it was supposed to be welded, that should have been all you needed to know. If you want it all original, and it sounds like you do, have them weld it in.

The new shoes for the Bee were delivered this week. I still don't have the shell/body home yet to put K frame or rear end back beneath it. Every week, I'm getting $100 off of draw #2's bill. It's all part of the contract. I'm guessing I should have it back in 2 more weeks. The owner of the shop is doing the work now. What I've seen looks real good. I may go get a pitcure or two today, since its been a week.

I read the whole thread so far, it's a nice Super Bee project & very cool story, I'm sorry to hear about your friend... I love the fact your saving a friends toy & memories... Keep up the great work...

I know... it's a lot of reading... But I want to document the rebirth of the Bee and how it came to BE.

I think the tag will read... WDS BEE
WDS was my buddy... Warren Douglas Smith but his nick name, he was referred to as WD... So in appearance... WD's Bee

Just a thought..

What size tires and wheels are you running, what name brands.

Very nice! So, that rotisserie is Auto Twirler? The 66 Mustang I'm working on came with this same rotisserie, owner wants to sell it, I said I'd buy it when we're done. He's going to sell it to me, so, it will need a few modifications making it easier to utilize, etc. But, good stuff!

Is the Autotwirler your purchasing the ball bearing version? AT also makes a sleeved version not as easy to turn. The Ball bearing unit, you can turn with 1 hand. Don't make any modifications to it. Call auto twirler and for $100, they will send you the correct mounts for your specific car.

Also - My Auto twirler will be for sale in 2 weeks.. I paid $1600 for it unpainted and I primed and painted it. I will be selling for $1000. Paint units are $1800

This is the ball bearing unit the customer bought. He didn't mount his Mustang properly in it when I got it, I fixed that though. He payed around 1800.00 for it, (or more), he wants 1400.00 for it, I'll pay him what he's asking no questions as he never ******* about costs etc to me when I invoice him, and, I need a 3rd Rotisserie -- no time to make a 3rd one when this one is basically handed to me. I just can't fathom that I need three rotisseries! I mean wth is going on? But, this is a GREAT 'problem' to have!

For those who have followed this story, I have an interesting update.
Still no color on the car. My bill goes down $100 a week. Its down $600 so far. I'm not pushing real hard, but give him a nudge each week. This isn't the interesting part.

I've been calling this guy for a week trying to go look at his 68 Charger. He lives about 10-12 miles away. We finally connected tonight. I'm going to look at the Charger Sunday. Well, us Mopar guys always talk about the ONE we had or got away.
He started telling me about a Superbee he used to own back in the 70's. I asked.. What Color, He stated Hemi orange. I said, to him - white tail stripe, white interior? He said YUP, howd you know. I said I own the car. .. He said NO WAY!!!!!. Now, we will refer to the 67 yr old gentleman as Bobby (his real name ha). I said.. Ok Bobby, lets make sure it's the same car but first let me tell you how I acquired the Bee from Warren. So I said Bobby.. What motor did the Superbee have in it? He said a 440, I said, correct. I removed a 71 440 HP motor out of it, which he said he removed from a 71 RR and put in the Bee. I asked if it ever had any body damage. He said he had a fender bender on the drivers side front fender. I responded I believe that, because there is an ever so small ripple between the 2 door hinges which I elected to keep for character and is hardly noticeable. He said he put on a 69 Coronet front fender. I said, but what about the fender tag? The SB has the correct fender tag on it, which he then said (trying to rewind 45 yrs ago), I'm pretty sure I remember taking off it the kinked fender and putting it on the new fender.

I'm still grinning from ear to ear 2 hours after my phone call with Bobby. Now - let me clarify.. Bobby bought it from the original owner in 1971, then sold it to a guy in Severn MD which I forgot to ask when, who then sold it to Warren.

Our planet is getting smaller, but the fact this Superbee has lived in the same 20 mile radius it's entire life, with the exception of being sold and brought up from Florida is super cool for my Superbee.

That's awesome...Like something from out of a story. Small world indeed! Just a small bit of advice on the upper radiator support. Past two cars I removed that from (including my bird), the inner fenders sprung out toward the top when removing it. One was out 1/4" total, other was 1/2". If I would have just welded that support in without checking, odds are it would have play wreaking havoc trying to ever get the hood to fender gap right up front, being the fender alignment up top is streamlined off the inner fenders. Whoever is welding that panel back in, I would make darn sure that the radiator opening is parallel on both sides all the way up. Either that or make sure the drilled out holes in the upper support match the imprints where the spot welds were drilled out (no they were not bolted). I had to use a winch strap to pull my radiator opening square again. Good luck.

1) The holes where the upper radiator support were bolted were used as a guide to weld.
2) Body guy came over and measured my Coronet 440 support.

3) Now that I think about it, the drivers front fender bender would be why the upper radiator support was changed and bolted in.

Things are really becoming more clear about this car. I can't wait to meet Bobby Sunday!!!!!!

Just an update... "The Bobby" wasn't the owner. One critical piece of information. Buckets or bench? His was a bucket seat car. Mine is a bench seat car.
Also had a little help from MVA look up all of the owners. Bobby wasn't one of them. My car was purchased new in VA.

So.. Heres a picture.. Saturday June 1. Two more weeks for color? PLEASE!!!!!!????? On a better note I get $900 off of the second draw when it does see color for being 9 weeks late (if I get it back bynext Friday)

Good to see you got a discount & performance clause written into your Body Shop/Paint contract, it helps keep them on their toes, if they stall too long, they get much less profit, make for some motivation... I make it a practice when dealing with any type of outsourced labor of any kind, I do it allot in my business with construction projects or you get guys/subcontractors {also fabricators are notorious for stall tactics}, some who seem to get lazy, right after the 1st couple of big draws & start to tapper off in performance... Your cars looking good, hope they follow thru in the next couple weeks & do a great job for you...

Bad news... Body shop is going out of business. I really wanted their painter to shoot the car. The painter is going to try and keep the shop up and running.
Here is where the car is: The shell on the rotisserie is been blocked several times and ready for paint. The 2 doors, 2 quarters, trunk lid and hood are in epoxy primer. One front fender has 2 half dollar size dings on the top. The hood has about a 12" x 1/8" crease in the middle but not over the center line. The doors need very little and the trunk lid needs very little.
I'm hoping one of you might know someone in Maryland who can finish the body work on the 6 body pieces..2 doors, trunk lid, hood, 2 front fenders. If he paints... Great.. If not I will get the painter I was going to use to shoot it. HELP!!!

Good luck & That sucks... Damn I'm so sorry to hear about yet another business, will be going under in todays horrible economy... I hope all goes well for you, with the current painter & all that seems pretty minor body work left to do... But sorry I don't know any paint & body guys/businesses in your area at all...

Man that sucks. I know you had planned on being able to drive that Bee by now. Sounds like all the major stuff is done so hopefully it won't take the next shop to long to finish. Did you end up losing any money in the deal? You are the 2nd person in as many days having huge trouble with their body shop.

No... I think I'm ahead.. trunk pan replaced, rear quarter and trunk drop downs replaced, epoxy primed, primed and blocked... I have $2500 into it. I found the guy today who did my 68 RR years ago.. He's considering doing the 6 body panels, but wants to go over the entire car shell again to make sure everything lines up.. That will set me back some...I said that if I do go with you, you have to promise to have it back to me in 3 weeks ready for paint.
