I think it would have been easier to buy the full quarter than to repair this lip but I finally persuaded it to cooperate one more side to go

Not that sure, the replacement wasn't so easy to make it fit properly and adjust on the wheel house etc... you made the right call I think :)
 
I always keep as much original metal as possible. You made the right call in repairing what you had.
 
I repaired mine in similar fashion. Forking out the dough for a complrte quarter wasn't in the cards. Looks like a good repair!
 
Your VIN# was on the piece that you cut out....
Yea I've got the whole gutter piece with my stamped vin number, my car is matching numbers, but Im not sure if i should weld the numbers back in, or just keep the old gutter, Im leaning towards keeping the gutter in the shop.
