How's everyone doing. I am looking for a 8-3/4 rear end for my sons resto project.
A gentleman said he had one but out of a 70 charger.
Can anyone advise on this please.

thank you in advance,

I’m pretty sure it is a little narrower but that may be a good thing if u want to run wider rims and tires. Also the spring pads will need to be moved out some. There should be a chart on here. I know FABO has a chart. Kim

It’s really not going to fit very good.

spring perches are 3.3” different
Width is 2.875” different

A 70-71 Chrysler and Fury has the same width rear end as a 71 b-body but spring perches are still off by 1.3”

Cut the spring perches off and move them out or by new ones. 1.5" in on each side you can make up with different wheel backspacing, but you may not even need to, it depends on your wheel combo. We have a 69 c body in a 72 b body it is roughly 1" wider on each side then a 69 b body. 71-74 b body widths are listed the same. I think we moved the perches but its been so long I can't remember, but you would never know it wasn't born there. 69 is not a direct fit but very doable.

E body is much closer and much easier to find, not to mention less valuable.

Pretty much all E bodies came with one (not sure about 6 cyls).

Of course there's the ISO issue but that's pretty easy to get around.

E body rears used to be expensive but not so much now. The 6 banger rears are not desirable at all no matter what the body style lol but it will have the same width if it came from an E car. Only the guys that are restoring E cars will pay decent money for E body rear ends but even a lot of them want the B body rears if they want more tire room.....

Yeah.

My point was that because nearly all E's came with them, as opposed to B's (which usually got an 8 1/4 if not a four barrel car) they have become somewhat plentiful due to part outs.

Plus they are only less than an inch narrower which may also be a desired factor.

...and the non ISO may also be a desirable factor.

Depending on if you're looking for stock or performance I have a c body 9 1/4 with a 4.10 sure grip that with the perches rewelded should fit and way cheaper than buying an 8 3/4 with sure grip

Furious70 I was just looking up 9-1/4's, seems like it will handle anything I'm going to through at it.
Any cons I should know about? That is the limited slip version? What are you asking for it and where you located.
Any one else have opinion on 9-1/4

A buddy of mine bought a slant six '70 Challenger. It had a 7 1/4" axle. The thing looked really weird.....an axle that wide with this tiny center section.

9 1/4 in my Dakota R/T has held up for 175,000 miles including "spirited" driving.

Check the width vs the C body axle.
