I have a '70 Charger that has all of the RT emblems, etc. yet the vin tag shows that it is an original 383. I bought it from the original owner and he swears that it came with these RT emblems off the showroom floor. Could the RT cosmetic package have been a dealer added option? Looking at the car very closely it seems like all of this is original due to paint colors and the attachments look original. I love this car and am happy with the 383 which it still has. Please let me know your thoughts....This is how I found it way back when. Note the classic sun tea jar on the top! :hello2:

I doubt the factory would do that, but the dealer certainly may have during the new car prep. First ever clone.

For 1970, the XS29U Charger R/T was only a 440 4-bbl, the 6-pack & Hemi optional, again only on the R/T model. Badges can be added anytime... ask any "Cloner" out there.

Thanks Robby, yes this is what I do know. The original owner insists that the car came with all of the RT badging and that is why I ask if the dealer could have done it or?? This owner is an elderly gentleman and seems very honest. Oh well, who knows what happened 40 plus years ago? Still love the car no matter what.....

If there was a 383 R/T Charger that would be a new one on me. But as some of us know, never say never when it comes to Detroit car production. Grease the right sales guy and who knows what can happen. I had a 70 Challenger 383 R/T with a column **** auto so MAYBE in 70, following the model of my old Challenger, there COULD have been a 383 R/T Charger. It it's real it has to be a one of a few I would thing. Do more research!

Sure, any dealer could've slapped emblems on back then. Emblems don't make the car. I saw a Satellite emblem on a Road Runner, from the factory ! It was STILL a Road Runner, even though it had an erroneous emblem. I've done it as well for customers on clone cars, but they were still base models. What is your VIN ? If it's XS, then it's an R/T. U is for the 440 4-bbl. (By the way, I had a triple-black 70 R/T back in the 70's myself ) . Nevertheless, it's a GREAT car anyway... ANY Charger is a great car, from /6 to Hemi !!!!

No, as I said earlier the vin shows an original 383, etc. It is XP29N0Gxxxxxx
I'll keep researching as suggested by Meep. Something tells me there is more to this story.
