Looking at putting a big heavy engine in my 70 charger and i know the unibody will not hold up to it so does anyone know of a chassis that will fit in my charger?I know shwartz performence makes a frame but there pretty expensive ,i have heard that a late model blazer chassis would work
Let me know
Thanks

Ummmm, all Mopar cars are unibody, at least form the early 60's up. Your 70 Charger could have had a 225 slant 6 up to a 440 Big Block, not to mention the 426 Hemi. I have never heard of putting a chassis, let alone, a blazer chassis under a Mopar.

What do you mean, specifically by "big heavy"?

Unless you've found a way to put in a Cummins, the uni-body shouldn't be a problem. The engine weight is supported by the K-frame, not the rest of the chassis.

Yup i am thinking about putting a cummins engine in it something like the guys at vegas rat rods have done i even talked to them about doing it and they thought my idea the way i wanna do it was awesome but there to busy to do it so i might do it myself ,its not gonna look like the general lee that basket case posted

If you're inclined to do so, why not just draw a mustache on a Mona Lisa ? And leave the Charger alone.

It's your car, but I think all Chargers are special and should be treated accordingly.

A diesel Charger......GREAT!
Come on man...Living in Farm country I can see the appeal of a diesel, but you must have inhaled too much pesticide. If you are looking here for advice on how to make your car the butt of several jokes, you have come to the right place. The only guys that would support you on this are either screwing with you or equally stoned on commercial pesticide vapors.
You want to be different? I can see that. Do it some other way. The Cummins is a 1200 lb engine fully dressed out. The 426 was 750 or so. The Hemi cars didn't handle so well with their 57/43 weight bias. The Cummins will make the car handle even worse by a long shot. Being unique can be fun, but different in the wrong way ruins all the fun.

You could correct the weight bias somewhat by putting huge tractor drive wheels on the front and tiny steering wheels on the rear. That will shift the CG towards the rear and also have the side benefit of looking truly unique.

he asked a question, he didnt ask your opinion on what you think of his idea, ffs gents

build your own chassis, remove floor and frame rails from the charger and weld the body onto your new chassis is 1 option.
or you could go the schwartz option by installing the new chassis to the old chassis or just brace up and strengthen the factory uni body.

I have seen a couple of muscle cars sporting diesels now, alot of them are drag cars too
