My 70 Roadrunner started as a 383 car and I put in a 440. I enlarged the oil passage for a 1/2" pickup and ran a deep Moroso (7-8 qt?) oil pan. I smashed three of those pans on the street.

I am installing a Six-Pack/Hemi K-member (with skid plate), a stock '70 Hemi oil pickup (1/2") & Milodon 30761B pan which Year One told me fits a 70-71 Hemi Roadrunner. I'm trying to set my car up so the K-member protects my oil pan from Chicago pot holes.

Problem: The pickup sticks down 6" below the oil pan rail of the block & the Milodon sump is only 5" deep (pickup hits the pan when trying to bolt it up).

What do I do? Does the Mopar P4529884 70-71 E-body Hemi pan have a 6" sump? Will it work for my 70 Roadrunner and be protected (not lower than) the skid plate on my Six-Pack/Hemi K-member?

Thanks for Your Help!
Scott

It's not out of the question to bend the pick up tube around a little. Maybe unscrew it, tweak it in a vise and check again. You should have about 3/8" from the bottom.

Thanks meep-meep but I'm off by a fuwll inch. The pickup is screwed all the way in and the round inlet screen looks "flush". It doesn't look like a little bending will take car of it. thanks though

Take it to a machine shop and have it cut down that inch and reweld it. I had one made longer that way by adding a piece of pipe.

Scott,I just measured the MP Hemi pan@ 5 deepx12" across the sump.I had similar problems trying to fit the pan and pick-up due to the 1/2" tap in the block is at a slightly different angle making the pick-up sit lower in the pan. I ended up with the deep Moroso pan on my Super Bee,I haven,t had any bottoming problems due to the Edelbrock AIS shocks not allowing excessive suspension travel over bumps and dips in the road.

Thanks BeeZee....but how did you measure the sump depth of the P4529884 pan? Is it off the car? Don't mean to doubt you, but Summit lists the P4529884 pan as having a 6-1/2" deep sump and if it IS only 5" deep then why is my stock '70 Hemi pickup tube so long?

The 1/2" pickup hole is at the same angle as the original 3/8" hole & round siphon/screen looks parallel to the block pan rail..... it couldn't be off a whole inch. Either the Milodon pan or the Hemi pickup isn't what it is supposed to be is what I'm thinking & the pickup sure looks "stock"

Any more ideas from anyone?

Thanks for everyone's help.

Thanks BeeZee--- that means it must be the pick up tube is 1" too long & my Milodon pan is just fine. Why the heck is my pickup so long???? It sure "looks" right hmmmm

Scott,Here,s a shot of the pick-up that MP sells to work with the 70-71 oil pan.I also compared it with the 3/8 pick-up for the RB centre sump, the 3/8 pick-up is close to an inch shorter.

WOW! Now I am really confused..... I "thought" I might have a 68-69 Hemi pickup but I just measured mine & it looks like the same pickup! I've got a Milodon pan, but the sump measured 5" deep just like yours and sure looks the same.

What's the chance a stock Hemi block is different where the oil pickup screws in? The only other idea I have is that the pickup is cross-threaded or not all the way screwed in. I have about 3-4 threads still showing. ?????
