Hello ALL, this is always the place that helps me with my 1970 Roadrunner. So around 2-3 years ago no power at all to the ignition but would crank over while by passing the starter relay with a screw driver but still not start. Went crazy trying to figure it out. At that time I had access to a brand new MSD box and MSD distributor to put in to my 383 motor with 4 speed and did so and started every time with rarely an issue.

WELL HERE I AM TODAY AND I PROMISE YOU COULD NOT MAKE THIS UP IF YOU TRIED.

Left me teenage son home with my 3 young children while I ran to ALDI for some needed milk and bread at 9am. Drove our 2014 GMC acadia with 22,000 miles and when I left ALDI the SUV cranked over but clearly a dying battery. Never happened before.

I found a near by stranger retired VET, thanks to him, he drove me home to my house 2 miles away.

I started up my 1970 roadrunner 383 4 speed that I had not driven in 2 weeks. Drove my RR to ALDI and saw my SUV was surrounded by cars so I could not park next to it to jump start it. Pulled far away in my RR and with in a minute it suddenly it shut off. I turned the key and it instantly started then immediately shut off. I tried to start it again an NO POWER AT ALL AT THE IGNITION. So I popped the hood and was instantly like, OH ****. I left the trickle charger still plugged into the positive side only with the negative cable flopping around in between the battery and inner driver side fender. Do not know if that some how arced or broke something in the wiring system.

I did not smell anything burning or melting at all.

I COMPLETELY RE WIRED THE ENTIRE CAR 2 YEARS AGO WITH FACTORY MATCHING HARNESSES EXCEPT THE IGNITION WIRING SET UP.

So with a friend went back twice and tried bypassing the neutral safety switch but still no power at ignition. Tried by passing the starter relay but still no power at the ignition. Took off all wiring harness connectors from the bulk head dash wiring harness and properly cleaned them all, unplugged ignition switch wires and cleaned all and nothing. Battery checked fully charged by multi meter. I am stumped and confused. I am not an electrical guy but understand some. Eventually called a trusted company to tow my car home on a flat bed for the first time and hopefully the last.

Did I cause something in my electrical system to fry or what do I do next?

Or maybe the ignition switch needs to be replace because likely original but how to I check, confirm, or what is recommended?

THANKS

He said it started with the key, then shut off. But, the visible link is also a prime suspect.
