Well my buddy went ahead and grabbed that big block(383) 71 Charger/SE I was asking about on here a couple weeks ago.
First order of business: Steering column woes=
The previous owner got rid of the whole power steering setup and put in a Flaming river stainless tilt column and manual box. Looks like a lot of money and very few miles. Not sure why you would want manual steering in a car this size. My buddy wants to return it to stock. He found a 72 Charger small block PS car in a junkyard. Steering column, PS box and PS pump and linkage from column down to tranny.
Before he pulls the trigger and buys the stuff, we want to make sure this will all swap over into a big block 71.
1) The column: were the 71 and 72 columns the same?
2) Is there an issue with the tranny linkage going from small to big block? Were they different linkages or not?
3) Any other issues we're not forseeing?
Thanks
PS- the flaming river setup will most likely be for sale

I could be wrong but the columns should swap over without issue. The linkage might need some tweaking but I "think" it should work. The kickdown linkage might be different but thats not what you are asking about.

As far I know 71/72 columns are the same. 73 and 74 are diff on each year. Just small difference on earliers 71 using a diff turning switch/hazzard knob, courtesy light and related column collar, but as full assembly will interchange

Now if we are talking about column shifter mechanism and related linkage… don’t really know. i’m not familiar with column shifters.
