'71-74 Machine Gun Tips

I have a set for one of my cars that I bought right after the price went down from about $400 to $175.

That was several years ago, and they haven't moved from the cabinet on the back porch.

They are still shiny, though which is a good sign since I've had chinese chrome go bad after two years in a box in the shed.

Wish I could remember the MFG/vendor.

IMO those tips are way too cool not to be put out where they can be seen.

...Regardless of the factory correct location.

I didn't realize that I had them extended too far until I saw the pic of the red car posted above, but I agree, they don't look too bad in this position.

Thanks,

I think they look good, keep in mind the tuck of the rear panel on the 71/72 is different than 73/74, so position may vary, plus I am sure not all the cars had the exact exhaust tip placement when built.

I simply installed at the point the body gives the hanger tips attaching point.

Here is a couple of pix of my original exhaust tips on my 73 RR

The info you have found looks to be correct as far as I can tell. I'd go the extra few bucks and purchase the rear valance too, they look great with the cutouts.
I am not 100 sure about this BUT I don't believe 73-4 B bodys came with resonators. I KNOW my 73 did not. Original exhaust which is also what I ordered according to Waldron Exhaust in Michigan was 2.25, 5 pipes, left side being 3 piece, right 2.
I saved these pics from a while ago but it's what I went by.

I think e-body and chargers may have had the resonators, but as far as I know 73/74 roadrunner didn't have the resonator, but 73Hemi_RR_GTX shows it can be done. Now that makes me wonder how it sounds with both muffler and resonator, or just with the resonator!

I know 73 Roadrunner GTX's had both mufflers and resonators with machine gun exhaust tips because my car still has the original exhaust from the headers back. I'm the second owner of this car and have had it since 1976. I guess I have no complaints since this exhaust is 44 years old.
But it is time to replace the mufflers since they are in bad shape. The resonators are still very solid.

Is that entire axle coated in cosmoline?

That looks awfully fresh for 45 years old.

Never seen that before, either.

BB and SB cars could have been different.

When I installed the Dana 60 back in 1980 I painted it with Gold Wheel paint and Clear coated it. I wanted the Cadium Plate look.

Well, that's very interesting, must be a big block or GTX thing then, as this is the first one I have ever seen with the resonators and tips. I got my car in '83, third owner. I do have to ask, if its the original exhaust, how is that working with a transplanted Hemi? It would seem that you would want better flowing exhaust with that setup.

As you can see the mufflers are in bad shape now. That is my next project for this car is a new exhaust from the Headers back.
Yes, I agree the stock Hi-po exhaust probably is restrictive for the Hemi. And worse now that the mufflers are worn out.
I hope I can find a pair of Hemi repro mufflers that would give me great flow and the appearance of original equipment.
