I am looking to see if anyone has a rear photo of a 71 console without the ash tray. I was going to use my other console to make a mold for my broken console but I noticed it is not the same. My good console has a ash tray but the broken one do not have the same opening. I think it must be a small coin tray as the internal support ribs come up way to high to really be anything else. Here is a picture of my broken console. One like it from the internet (but it is open to the floor as well) and my good console with the ash tray. Ash tray opening is much smaller and the internal support ribs are smaller.

1970 only had an opening for seat belts if i remember right. 1971 to 74 had ashtray only.

I am thinking mine is original to the car as it is a original Gold interior car and this color is not easy to find. But it is defiantly not a ash try opening. All the examples I find online cannot be complete as I would not think a new car would show the interior of the console. That and it does have the finished opening lip for the larger size of hole. You can see the finished edges in the first photo above on the left and top parts of the hole. And then the second photo of another console shows almost all four sides of the opening being finished.

If your car is a real early built car it could be original. The brown one in your pics is right. The white one is broken. It holds the seat belt latches.

Mark stolen my words... for seatbelt latches storaging.

its for 70/71 E and 71 B bodies. ALTHOUGHT lates 71 could get the ashtray setup

Actually Nacho it's 70E only. 71 B/E got the ashtray.
Another difference is the 70E top plate had 4 screws and the 71-4 B/E had 5 screws.

I have seen the seat belt storage console in early build 71 B bodies

You guys are great! This car was built in 9/70 so it is a early car and the rear front seat belts look great in the slots. Thanks All!

Yup my 71 r/t has a 70 console and rear view mirror 9/70 build

Mark, as stated, really, maybe half of 71 production got earlier kind with seatbelt buckles provision console and lates got the ashtray... same as lates 71s got the lates seatbacks buckets panels and release button, and hood with the gap on rear grill

In Venezuela, E bodies never were assemblied ( so we never got a reason to get 70 E bodies consoles on assembly plant ) just A and B bodies, and MOSTLY of 71 Chargers got the "seatbelt kind" console.

My R/T built 11-70 had the 71 console. All my other B's and all my 71 E's had the 71. Know of several more E's that have the 71 console. Here in the States I've only seen a small few 71 B's with the 70 console. I think that only maybe the first 2 months of production of 71 B's got the 70 console. Walk through all the Mopar shows and you'll see 71 consoles 10 to 1.

Here is an August built Cuda that we just sold. Original seats and console.

The parts book doesn't show a change date in 71. Just a 70 part number and a 71 part number which leaves me to believe that they just used up the 70 consoles on early 71 cars. They were know to do that.
Seat backs were changed in 3/71

Nice... yes, 71 got several changes allong its production. Can't say when or why, but is there ;)
