71 Coronet Wagon

I was planning to put the 440 in but before I got to it, I found a 400/440 crank engine for less than 440 source charges for the rotating assembly, which would fit under the hood with no issues. This was .040 over, 440 source crank, icon pistons and an unknown cam, Performer RPM intake and stock 452 heads. The machining was all fresh but it had been sitting for at least 2 years so I had a guy look into it to make sure it had been assembled correctly. He checked the ring gaps, all the bearings and checked the cam and found a number for a Comp Xtreme energy grind that is good for 2000-5800 which is pretty much perfect for what I want to do. A couple rod bearings were needed with the proper chamfer and ARP bolts on the bottom end but everything else was good to go. I was able to find a set of Trickflow 240s used that he checked out and a ready to run distributor. Everything else came on/with the long block. It had a 440 source oil pan on it which I’m not excited about as it caused a few leaks when it was run to break in the camshaft. It should be in the wagon around the first of the year.

Those very-early 70's wagons have such nice body lines and beautiful proportions. The roof lines along with the fuselage shoulders just look so much nicer than the 60's wagons with the awkward angular long-roof profiles. I'd love to find one of those but they are very few and far between.

Just found this, love the wagon. I have a '71 sedan that I picked up from a wrecking yard July '23. You mentioned earlier in the thread that you had cut a Charger windshield to fit... how well did it end up fitting?

It will fit well enough to functionally work in a pinch, the curvature at the top is slightly different but it will work with windshield sealant. The trim therefore sits a bit funny but again will work and other than mopar guys, isn’t obvious enough to be noticeable. I ran mine for about a year, around 3000 miles.
