71 Satellite Sebring Plus, 383, slapstick Auto

Thanks Mark, the pictures are so cool. When I bought it it came with rusted yellow and black front fenders and passenger door. The fenders had 440-6 markings above the front marker lights, the drivers side fender was crushed around the headlight. The drive shaft that came with it had "71 GTX" written on it and it didn't have any wheels. So somebody used it as a doner car for their project.

I got it cheap by taking over the storage unit. Spent more in storage than I had in the car until I bought my house.

While scrounging parts, i found out how rare the N code SSPs are, and started wishing it wasn't so stripped. I cant afford to do a numbers correct restoration. Originally I was going to tub it and make it into a drag car like the picture of the car i put in this thread. Now I want to stay close to the original look as I can.

Cant wait to start working on it this spring. Do you have Pics of your SSP posted on here?

I am diggin' the plain jane green you're going with...where did you get the fiberglass 6pack hood? That's the route I am def going too...eventually

So I dug the SSP out from its corner of the garage. I'm having a new roof and siding put on my house this spring so funds are tight, but I need to feel like the car is moving forward, so I stripped the surface rust from the roof off an primed it with some epoxy primer. Next up is to get rid of the under coating.

I also found a media blaster called Master Blaster that lives literally just down the hill from me. He quoted a price of $700 to strip the ousted of the car, fenders, doors, body, and hood. Since I'm not using my original hood, he said he would knock off a little more. Sounds more than reasonable to me.

Gonna be sweet! I always love seeing the old dealer badging. I'd put one on my car, if I knew what dealership she was sold out of originally, and if I could find a badge for it.

He also referred me to a Rod Shop that would DA sand and epoxy prime the car for me, the shop is 2 blocks from him. Going there today. Last winter I stopped by a classic car restoration place and the guy wouldn't even talk about a non-rotisserie full blown resto.

... And at 76 bucks an hour. I was going to haul my car back to So Dak where a top notch shop charges around 54. On the phone they said they would be more than happy to do only the work I wanted done.

I'm exited to here what this Rod Shop has to say. I found an article in Hot Rod featuring one of their 50s trucks... So could be scary.

Well just got back from talking to Bob at Bob's Rod Shop. Man, talk about Luck...I hoped to find a good body shop to work on my car, but to find both a Media Blaster and a Body shop less than 4 blocks from my house!!!!

Bob is a super straight shooting guy, He even has storage so I can move out of the garage. My wife is already tired of the dust and smells of my recent projects, so she will be all for getting the "Clunker" (as she calls it) out of the garage.

Bob charges 50 an hour, and he will let me be as hands on as i want. He even took the time to give me tips on how to remove the under-coating and prep the underside of my car. So it equals: for every hour I work at my side job will equal 1 hour of work on the Clunker... and i won't have to dip into Household funds making the wife happy!

i love it! finally another 70s sattelite in the rust belt that ACTUALLY HAS FLOORS lol. i do wish i had your front end the bumperless are awesome!

Well tried to upload pics, but my computer is not having any part of it. Since I last posted, I removed the surface rust on the roof that was under the long missing 1/2 vinyl roof, used a torch and scraped off the undercoating on the inner fenders, and crawled underneath and used a wire wheel on a grinder and cleaned off the underneath of the car. This weekend I hope to paint the underside with chasis black.

So here are some pictures after removing the surface rust on the roof, and scraping the undercoating off of the inner fenders, next took a wire wheel to the underneath. About ready to start taking fenders and doors to be media blasted.

So I made it to Mopars in the Park in Farmington Mn this month. It was nice to see cars like mine in completed form. Makes me wish I could speed up my progress...but I am patient. Hope to have body and paint done this year. Anyways, here are some pictures of the color/wheel combination that I have decided on. Kind of a 1971 A12 tribute...

Switching to the 15x 10 i think you will like the look.. with the color and wheel choice its going to look sweet! Good luck on it.

Just a little bump to keep this thread alive. I just finished having my house re-sided ( plus new roof last May, ouch), and my wife just started Nursing school and has cut her hours back, so like so many here i had to put this project on hold. Was cleaning the garage Sunday and decided i just needed to get something done on it before the Minnesota winter creeps in, even if i don't have a ton of cash to throw around right now. SO I made a simple goal for the next couple of days off.

This is a picture of the rust on my car, I bought an AMD panel to patch it. I am going to order the non-cutout rear valance this week.

Over the next couple of days I am going to take out the rear quarter glass and remove the driver's door, trunk lid, and rear bumper. Then i will be ready to take the car to Bob at the body shop. Still not sure if i want to media blast because this is obviously the original paint, Besides, this is not a high dollar restoration and i just want to get on the street. Hope to have it painted in the spring!

progress is progress...keep the thread alive! Can't wait to see what's next!

Is there a hidden message here? Or do they really work good?

Never did use one, I didn't buy the compressor...the underneath was pretty clean so I just used a wire wheel on my drill. Slow, tedious, and dirty. Most of the undercoating underneath was thin and flakey. It didn't get it all, but good enough for my plans. I still have the thick undercoating in my rear fenderwells that i haven't touched yet.

Hello there you are .. Great car !!! Wow and very very solid too !!
Looks like the same crome package mine came with also
