Ok I'm working on Mama's 71 Super Bee; 440, 4-speed. I'm having some alignment issues with the pulleys. If possible I could use some pics of the crank pulley, and water pump pulley. Also it has a new alternator with a 2-rib pulley but I think it came with a single rib. Thanks in advance.

First. Welcome. (ya shoulda popped in and said hello. but we're not shooting people for that this week)

More info please. Is this the original motor? Pulleys? Alternator being a double instead of a single shouldn't matter. BUT assuming your car was a single belt type setup (here's where that more info comes in) the original single groove pulley would have been a larger diameter, and, like most of us with that setup, you would probably see your lights dim when pulling to a stop.

So give us more to go on!

Sorry bout that. I was a bit rushed this morning and I'm not used to being a noob on a forum.

Anyway as far as the pulleys go I'm not sure what goes where anymore, we've got about 6 other BB crank pulleys, some painted and some not, and about 5 more H2O pump pulleys that were in a box. The original 383 was replaced by the 440 some time ago but it has run since then with the 440. The problem is that I wasn't involved in the teardown. Dad pulled the engine at school (he's a high school teacher) with some of his students about 10 years ago, I just happend to be about 10 or 11 at the time and in school so I wasn't there for what got put where and what was replaced/reused. I'll get some numbers from the block later.

So what's the layout? Is it a cast or forged crank? Anything more than an alternator? whut???????????

Cast (I think).

Power Steering pump (with cooler if that makes a difference).

Cast will have a really thick balancer. Kinda tapered and funky lookin

I think the correct balancer is on it. Do you have a pic (preferably from the side) for the crank pulley itself? I've got 4 distinct crank pulleys to choose from. It has a 2-groove crank pulley with a larger diameter rib in the front and a shorter rib directly behind that. With the one that's on it now it doesn't line up with ANY of the other pulleys, and interferes with the larger diameter style H2O pump pulleys.:edgy:

The balancer is 1" thick with no real offset to speak of on the back.

Ok here goes the list of my choices for the pulleys.

The current crank pulley or "Option A" is a 2-rib pulley, with both ribs next to the other. The front rib=7.25" OD. The rear rib is 6.5". The total distance from the balancer surface to the front of the pulley is 3.25". I can't find a part number anywhere on this pulley and do NOT believe that it is the correct pulley.

"Option B" is a 2-rib pulley, with .75" between the ribs. Both ribs are 7.25" OD. The # stamped onto it is 36988 08. I'm inclined to think this is the right pulley.

"Option C" is a 2-rib pulley, identical to "Option A" except both ribs are equal diameter. The # stamped onto it is 36713 26.

"Option D" is a 3-rib pulley. The front rib is 7" OD. The rear two ribs are 7.5" OD and are connected as on Options A & C. There is perhaps .125"-.0625" gap between the front rib and the rear two due to the fact that the front rib is made from another piece of metal from the rear, in essence another pulley inside the two-rib pulley. I can find no # stamped onto this pulley.

Now for the H2O pump pulleys.

"Option 1" is 5.875" OD. The overall 'height' (pulley laying on the floor) is 1.25". There is no flare but a radius flowing into the rib. The # stamped onto it is 36989 07.

"Option 2" is 6.625" OD. The 'height' is about 2.125". It starts with about a 3.125"-3.25" OD at the bolt end and then has an angled flare out toward the rib. The # stamped onto it is 37691 32.

"Option 3" is like "Option 2" but with a 6.5" OD and a 'height' of 1.875". I can't find a # on this pulley.

"Option 4" is 6.125" OD. The 'height' is about 2.125" but it has been bent as though it was beaten onto the guide stud. The flare begins immediately from the bolting surface. The # stamped onto it is 34328 25.

"Option 5" like "Option 4" but 5.625" OD with a 'height' of 2.125".The # stamped onto it is 34182 27.

I hope this helps and I will try to upload a few pics for further clarification.

I could give you some pictures of a 71 R/T 440 but I don't think it would help since it has A/C. (that is a whole different layout.)
