Guys, need a flasher for my 72 and no one seems to carry one. My 73 has the standard two prong that I have seen on most older cars and trucks. Even the local auto parts store books list a two prong.....do y'all have the two or three prong on your 72s....and can I rig a two prong to work.....thanks....

Sorry, read too fast. Do you need the flasher relay?

Yes, Builderguy, the flasher relay and that one for 38 bucks appears to be like mine.......BUT do not wish to pay 38 bucks. If that is my only choice, how can I modify my harness to use the standard 2 prong. Pulled mine apart and cleaned the contact points but it still will not open after getting hot.

There are no 3-prong flashers in a ’72 originally. Are you looking at the time delay relay for the ignition switch light by chance? It kind of looks like a flasher and has three connections.

Ok, 72Rr, I feel like an idiot as I think you are right. Crawled under there tonite for a better look and saw the wires to the three prong "flasher" are two yellows and a red. When I put on the hazards the square flasher clicks as they all flash as it should. So when I put on either turn signal this three prong "flasher" gets hot but no clicking. I then ASSUMED this is the flasher. Not so, must be as you suggest , the time delay relay. In looking over all the 73 and 72 wiring I could find today , they ALL show a black and a red wire to the flasher. I then found it by removing the phillips head screw on the bottom near the ash try.....duh, what an idiot. So, can you tell me what/why is the time delay relay for the ignition switch needed for. thanks all.....

There’s a small lamp near the ignition switch, the time delay relay is activated by the door switches, turns on the ign lamp when the door opens, when door the closes the current stops to by-metal heater in the time delay relay, cools off after about a minute or two, opens the circuit to the lamp.

On 71s also controls the seatbelt warning buzzer

@bandit67 Just in case you need it, no need to pay $30-50 for it ( like some eBay sellers try to sell it )

I think on my car remains tuned on by 10-20 seconds depending on how long the doors were kept open, no that long like 1 or 2 minutes

For bulb service, is just about pull out the cap and will reach the bulb

( 70s and most of 71s require the steering wheel removal... diff design. Untill got changed to this later design along the 71 year )

Thanks guys, I was not aware there was a light bulb there close to the ignition switch. So put in a good bulb and it will not go out.....so, Nacho, looks like I shall be ordering one of those relays from Rock, thanks for the link.

it should be available at Mopar dealers yet since it was longly used up to 90s on Jeeps, even to the Viper, but I guess it won't be at the same price than RockAuto LOL
