I am in the process of putting my dash back in my car, and I have an extra wire and don't know exactly where it goes. I have a Heavy Gauge Red wire that goes to the Amp gauge, but I also have a Heavy Gauge Red with White Stripe wire. Do they both go to the Amp Gauge or does one of them go to another gauge? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

i would guess being a larger gauge wire it would be either the input of the ammeter coming from the alternator, or the output from the ammeter going to the starter relay if i remember correctly. And the piece in the last pic IS hooked up correctly...see pic

As far as the red/white wire I couldn't tell you (don't have a 72' schematic)

That "what is this", is a capacitor and is used to suppress engine electrical noise through your radio and yes, it does plug into your voltage limiter on the backside of your dash.

Good luck

Thanks all for your assistance. From what I gathered it feeds the Power Window from the ammmeter gauge.

AHA!!..found it in my schematic book! It is the power window feed....it goes from the ammeter on the RED terminal down to the Window lift circuit breaker.
It's on the top of the pic. circuit Q1-12R*
