im replacing everything on my rear brakes... but the drivers side had a piece that wasnt on the pass side... its a steel wire about a foot long with a loop at the top, spring at the bottom, and it keeps tension on the thing that touches the bottom adjuster teeth wheel. do i need it for both sides? if so where do i get it. and also my emergency cables are broken. do i need to get a whole new cable or can i just get cables and clamps from home depot and fix it hot rod style. thanks

Yes, you need that piece on the other side. It's the self adjuster cable link. You should be able to get it in a self adjuster kit for your car. Also, while you're at the parts store, order up new E-brake cables. Hot rod style is cool, but not when safety is involved.
