I have a 72 Sebring Plus I am restoring and I am finding that nobody thinks this car is worth anything as a Satellite. It is a premium price class car, factory it has disc brakes, a 400, air conditioning, rear defrost and what seems to be very rare wheel option. They are the wheels with trim rings and center caps that look like cop wheels but have no nub to hold the tiny center hubcap on. One more box checked on the order sheet and it would have been a RR or GTX Anyway, I have 71 fenders and all the lights and can get 71 quarters new so is this car really worth more as a 71 GTX or RR clone?

I tend to believe that clones are worth less unless you started with a generic 318 car and cloned it into a Hemi/Max Wedge/Six Pack car. A Sebring Plus is not a generic car either, but won't be worth as much as a Road Runner or GTX. If the car is salvagable, I would still try to save it as it's still a cool looking car and has the factory 400 which can be a very strong engine.

As I say this, my dad and I just cut the roof off a '72 Sebring Plus to save a '73 Charger SE (which actually fits) and robbed several parts off it to aid in restoring a '72 N96 Road Runner, but the Sebring was already too far gone to do much with it anyway.

A lot of the buying decision for these cars is based on the visual, gut, reaction buyers get from them, and a Roadrunner or GTX has far more of that than a Satellite. If selling price is what's driving you, I would clone it as you're more likely to get a higher-priced impulse buy off a RR/GTX clone than a Satellite.

Personally I think there is nothing wrong with a 72 Satellite Sebring Plus, especially a Big block car, I would leave it a Satty S+ & just add some GTX/RR flavor to it, hood &/or go-wing, engine badging, stripping, wheels & tires, exhaust etc., it won't ever be a real 71/72 GTX/RR anyway &/or probably won't get the same resale price of a equivalently built real GTX/RR, unless it has a RM in the Vin# & documentation, so why go to all the expen$e & hassle to change to 71 RR panels, be proud of it as what it is a 72 Satellite Sebring Plus, it doesn't need to be a 71 RR/GTX to be cool, screw those doubters &/or hatters who think otherwise, build it your way, Satty, RR/GTX clone or not, believe me I'm the 1st guy that will say, build it, modify it, restore it, just don't butcher it, there are great arguments either way.... My 2 cents from a RR owner, going on #13 now, one of my all time favorite cars was a 68 Sport Satellite 383 4bbl 4spd...

As you can see there are different opinions on this. I personally dont mind clone cars. I like the badging and the go-wing. People can not afford originals now a days. So why not the next best thing-A clone. Good luck on your decision.

i wanted something that i could drive, and personalize to my taste...stay true to what you want.
my car was a 6cyl that someone converted to a big block w/ RR emblems and badging..I am fine with that.
I am getting ready to install front and rear spoilers...I know as it stands (for me) that it is def worth more now than as a 6cyl. Plus for what i paid, i can justify doing the small mods i want, and not pricing myself out of a resale breakeven or small profit.

All this depends on what you want out of the car, If your looking at it in a way you love the car and want to keep it and make it your ride then do what you want. Ive seen well done clones go for more then a "RM" Runner, only for the fact the clone was well done and the RR needed work and to buy one needing work your paying high, then the money to make it right again. There isint anything wrong with a Satty, if you make into a RR then it may bring more only because someone likes the looks of it, if its that high with the options you may want to leave it alone, you say its a premium price class car, Hard decision to make, if you wanted it as your ride and the money value wasn't important, id make it exactly the way you want. I did, and im very happy about it, but my intentions arent to sell it, the only real value i put on my car is how i feel about it...

I agree.....I cloned my 74Sebring to a RR and don't try to pass it off aa a real RR.....my plate reads "RRWANAB"....

Like the others above, there is no shame in a 72 Sebring Plus. It's darn near a roadrunner as it is now (i.e. the interior & engine). When I aquired mine back in the 90's, if the body-line chrome trim had been in good shape I wouldn't have minded putting it back together fairly stock and then giving it a good set of chrome wheels... It would have still looked good as a satellite. For me personally though, I prefer a more ambiguous look where it's not exactly a stock Satellite Sebring Plus or a true cloned-out Roadrunner, but something inbetween... almost resto-mod but without the 20in wheels. I thought the roof strobe decal worked well with the Lemon Twist paint I put on it at the time, so that might lead one to believe it's a roadrunner but I never pass it off as anything but a Satellite. If your going to keep this car for your own pleasure, I would lean towards building it to suit your own tastes.

Cop-type wheels with no lips to hold a dog dish hub cap? They might be Super Coupe wheels of a later F-body... rare pieces. Got any pics????

I have a 74 RR that came with a 318. I'm planning on putting a BB in it. Is it as bad, or worse than starting with a 383, or 400 Satty, and making a RR? [Assuming honesty and saying it is a clone?]

This type of response never makes any sense to me....

If you didn't want to pass it off as a RR then why did you "clone" it?

The only reason to add incorrect badging/stripes/accessories is to make somone think a car is something that it is not otherwise people would leave things alone.

No.

Upgrading or swapping engines and drive trains for more performance was always cool. Adding stripes and badging was never cool.

I did it because i liked the looks of it period end. Not everyone is dishonest, not everyone trying to deceive. When i came to this site, I made it a point to tell everyone that it is a Satellite, that it is a clone, i didn't have to, it was my choice, You don't like the idea, no problem, we all have different tastes and im done with this, i will not argue the point so, ill respect your thoughts, but not all of us are trying to deceive anyone.. Looks plays a big part in cars.

with all that said....its YOUR car....and not his or hers or his or theirs....its yours and do what you want....you only have to answer to yourself!

let me give you a " for instance"...if you look through my pic gallery, you will see a gorgeous purple RM23 1970 Road Runner. You will also see BIG HUGE PLYMOUTH decals on the quarters, and shackles on the rear. I cant begin to tell you the slack i have taken for doing that. some people love it and some shake their head. My reaction (in my usual smart-assed replies)..THIS IS MYYYYYYYYY CAR...THEY ARE THERE BECAUSE I WANT THEM THERE. I want a car thats MINE...not a car thats everyone elses... take it for what its worth ! ....and whoa bundy !
