I have a like new TCI 727 in my 68 GTX, installed by the previous owner. It has Lokar throttle and shift cables installed. My problem is it wont shift into 3rd gear until I'm about 50-60mph and if I let off a little on the throttle. 1-2 shifts fine around 20mph. Is there an adjustment on the tranny or cable I need to fix this problem? Thanks

You need to adjust the cable tension. If the cable is too slack you shift late, if it's too taught you shift early. This is pretty much a two man operation as the lower shifter arm has to be held in a position forwards just until the engagement is felt and then adjusted at the bracket on the engine from there. Read this article for hands-on installation and adjustment method:

So if the cable is a little loose, that could be why it takes forever to shift from 2-3? Tighten the cable slightly and test drive? Thanks

I think that's the opposite direction. Backing off tension should make it shift sooner.

furyus is correct. I had same problem, backed off on tension and 2-3 came in at 3000 rpms. Not quite sure of the speed.

To much throttle pressure will raise the shift points. Which means the kickdown (throttle pressure) cable is to tight. As said loosen the throttle press cable a bit and try it. It can also be other problems that can cause it but it sounds like to much throttle press. Good luck , Ron

That’s what it was! Loosened the cable slightly and now shifts into third at about 2200-2500 rpms, not 4000! Thanks for all the responses.
