my 1970 roadrunner has an automatic transmission. it kicks down from 3rd gear to 2nd gear and 1st gear if i tromp on it all the way to the floor. should it be this way i ask>???????. i would like it to shift from 3rd to 2nd gear at about 3/4 throttle. and 3rd to 1st when it is tromped to the floor. how do i accomplish this task?? i know where the kickdown linkage is .....so take it from there...ready,,,,,,,,,,,set,,,,,,,,,,go...im ready to learn !

Make sure the throttle is rigged correctly first. Have someone hold the throttle to the floor and verify the throttle plates are straight up and down. If you have all factory parts (intake and carb) there is a procedure in the service manual where you can put a pin in the linkage and adjust it from there. What are you using for an intake and carb?

stock intake with a holley double pumper 650. i have a shop manual on CD...but that thing aint easy to use or find things ya need when ya need it in a hurry ..lol so i just figgered id ask you guys. i would get an answer wayyyyyyyyyy faster,,,,trust me !

if you hold your throttle wide open, with vehicle off obviously. crawl underneath and double check that the kickdown lever on the tranny is all the way back. if it is your transmission should kickdown from 3rd to 1st at almost any lower speed under say 35 mph. usually only kicks down to second at speeds after that.

I will be difficult (if not impossible) to get it to work properly without the correct geometry.

Did you get the Holley throttle extension lever? Part #20-7
