In a van, down by the river,
I have a 383/727 that's acting up. When cold it slips in forward & reverse. That's not so uncommon, just put it in N & get the fluid moving. Then when I start to drive normal it shifts 1-2 @ 17 mph 2-3 @ 27 mph. Sounds good so far. But drive it 10-15 miles at hwy speeds and it will shift back into 2nd even at 65 mph. I have to put it in N rev the motor, then back to Drive and it will go back to 3rd. In a short order it will go back to 2nd. I have adjusted the pressure linkage to where it should be. It's all stock stuff so nothing too hard there. Also after it gets warmed up, when I shift it into gear (from N) it slams in hard. No more slow engagement. Thanks for any ideas you might have.

Found it! I got under the car this morning, and found the problem. Someone installed a custom exhaust and did a good job except, the lower bell crank rubbed on it. As the exhaust heated up it expanded and held the bell crank back. After it cooled down it let it go. That is the reason Chrysler put a notched linkage at the carb. If not the throttle would get stuck.
