ok....try to follow me on this::

if the car has been sitting over night and i drove it the previous day, its morning and the engine and tranny are cold, i start it up no problem and let it warm up until the temp gauge starts to move....i drop it in drive and i dont feel it engage but it IS engaged. for the car to initially move i got to give it a little gas (it wont drift by removing my foot off the brake.)

the car shifts great...goes right into reverse when i need it doesnt slip...it just does this when its cold...once warmed up everything is fine. is this normal?? or does some kind of fine tuning need done?

there are absolutely no leaks from this car and the tranny fluid is nice and red,,not burnt....the tranny is spotlessly clean, full of fluid( the dipstick says full) and the previous owner told me the tranny was rebuilt not too long before i bought it.

converter drain back. the fluid level in the converter is draining back into the main case. this is "normal" for a torqueflite but usually takes a little longer than overnight. some shift kits may make the problem worse. when the tranny is in park the pump isn't working so the converter doesn't get filled back up with fluid. best solution is start the engine with the tranny in neutral or put the tranny in neutral for a few seconds before you drop it in gear. the converter will fill quickly and your off and running. i've been thru this many times and even took a tranny in for rebuild thinking it was broke. its just more of a nuisance.

What he said.

The Charger I bought did the same thing. First thought "Oh ****, What piece of crap did I buy?" I checked with some people and was told the same thing as they said above. I fixed the problem by sticking a Tremic 5 speed into it - That fixed the problem! - LOL!

if you park it on a slight incline, turn the car around when you park it.may solve the problem as well.only time i have seen this was from parking the car on a hill(nose up).

Ma , your charger is nothing short of badass. that is my favorite year. i have had 2 71s an R/T and a superbee along with a 72 rallye U code 440 4 speed car and few 73-4s and now a 77. i am still kicking myself for letting them go.

I put the 5 speed in because I wanted a stick shift - not to fix the 727...

...and it was on the plus side when completed. But now I have a stick shift which I always wanted.
