727 Torqueflite rear vent install question.

Guys, thanks for all your help with the positioning of the rear vent. I drilled, taped and threaded a fitting in this morning. Appreciate the help and advise as always!

Malex ,
you may want to adjust direction of fitting , when it goes in car pointing straight up may be close to floor . Mine points to front of car .

Ok thanks Tex, I will be watching for that.

Very interesting stuff.... I do have a question Malex, just looking at your floors I have to ask are you working in a hospital??? Holy sterile operating rooms!!!
Really neat trans dolly to!

Yes, that is the right location. Also, I drilled a small hole in web part below the hole so any trans fluid can drain and not fill that area.
I have these fittings with nylon air brake tubing running up to the fill tube and zip tied. I haven't had any fluid come out the vent tube.

This is exactly what I use. Line usually shows fluid in the line , but no overflow.

Thanks for the compliment Mike! I think.
I like to keep things neat. Not sure if it's a choice thing or a phobia. Lol.
Actually when I built the place I applied 2 coats of Amerlock 2 part epoxy on the floor. Great stuff, tough as nails. That was 15 years ago now. I've top coated it since then to freshen it up and will do it again one of these summers. My floor is heated and sloped to a centre dual compartment drain so it's easy to hose down and keep clean. Speaking of drains, once in awhile the old drain will start to stink like they all do. As soon as I notice it I'll throw a chlorine puck in and just like that, drain odor gone! Lasts for at least a month or more. If you ever run into that, give it a try.

Anyone tried the pump vent shield that was supposed to prevent fluid from coming out the pump vent?

I left both pump shields on after I plugged the pump vent on the back side. It seems that their purpose is to deflect splash, but it wan't good enough in extreme competition so guys started to rear vent.

My 727 has been leaking out the bellhousing vent for years. Only problem was I didn’t know that was the deal. I’ve dropped it twice to try to fix it thinking it was a leaky seal or something. First time just re-sealed and gaskets the pump housing, second time l ended up rebuilding the entire tranny, re-installed..... same damn leak. Frustrating thing is I had heard about this mod but just never put 2 & 2 together & realized the vent was what I was dealing with.
I’ve heard the stock vent location will often start puking fluid when a manual valve body pushing higher line pressures is in use (???).
Gary, the seller of the vent on eBay is a personal friend of mine and he has been doing torqueflites for close to 50 years. He says Chrysler was made aware of the front vent puking fluid on occasion and issued a memo years ago about adding the rear main case vent. Some builders drill the front clutch drum with a "pee hole" to allow faster drain back when using manual valve bodies and especially with trans brake. He has built several trans for me over the years and I have never noticed the front vent leaking. He commented that like so many things, it is a matter of preference.

I’m sure you’re referring to Pat, Bob. I’ve met Pat and bought parts from him in the past as well. Next time my trans is down, I’ll install the rear case vent and see if it effects my issue. Until then, I guess I’ll live with a small puddle on the garage floor. I’ve got too much going on right now to r & r and tear down a completely fresh and otherwise perfectly operating 727.

You are correct Gary, as a matter of fact I met him for breakfast on Thursday. Having known him for a number of years, having him do all my trans work has led to a great friendship. He usually stops by at least once a week. I have heard him referred too as "the torqueflite guru" in the Northwest.:moparsmiley:
