On the 727 in our '77 Doba 400 there is a stripped bolt in the pan and can't seem to stop the leak there. Wondering if anybody has any suggestions what I could get to fill the bolt hole with and then retap it? Thanks

A helicoil is the best but unless you know someone with the tools and inserts it is a little pricey to buy the kit for just one hole. It wouldn't be where you could use a longer bolt and add a nut to the top side by chance.

X2, Helicoil is the way to go hands down. Quick, easy and extremely reliable.

Heli-coil is a 5 minute job. Just because the fluid is coming around the pan gasket does not necessarily mean that is the location of the leak. Anything above the pan, shift seal ,KD lever seal, cooler lines, rear servo pin, dipstick tube will all run down around the pan. Clean the entire area with brake clean, blow dry with compressed air. Then "puff" baby powder around the base of the trans. Sit and wait. The powder will become damp around the leak area. Most times you will not have to run the engine to find the leak.

A slightly larger self tapping cap-screw?

Thanks Photon but we already tried that, didn't work

Thanks for suggestions, but no it isn't a hole where we can add a nut at the top, seems like the only way to go is with the helicoil.

Thanks for your suggestion, good way to check for leaks! In this case it definitely is from the bolt because the bolt is not tightening up.

Should be an easy job.The heli coil should be less than $30 and take your time and don't rush. Also if you need to do another you will have some extras in the pack.
