727 trans

My 63 Polara has a in line filter for the trans, can I get rid of that and put a filter in the trans itself? Will I need a new pan, and what about the three screws that mount the filter, not sure where they will go inside the trans I know from previous trans 64, and a 65 pushbutton, the filter was over on the right side.. help...
