I have a 1967 satellite, 383 with a 727 torqeflite transmission. I recently discovered that the transmission dipstick may not be correct. Can anyone tell me what the length of the dipstick should be from the stop near the top to the bottom. Many thanks in advance.:happy6:

I had that issue. What I did was drain the oil install a new dipstick and tube. Install the right amount of oil let it settle and then marked the dipstick with a file. Not sure if this helps the ones that want orginal but it answered my issue and to where is full.

The level should be very close to where the dipstick tube goes into the case casting.

My 727 stick is 18 & 1/4 " to the rubber plug/steel cap bottom.
the trans is out of a mid 70s Chrysler.

as a last resort that is what I was planning on doing.

thanks. I'll be doing the measurement shortly and see where I stand

18 3/4" from top of tube to tip I hope! Having some issues myself. Like what FLUID TO USE?! :BangHead:
Many guys run the type F for a more firm shift.
I have allways used dextron 3 in my 727 with no problems.

Yeah, was going to actually, I saw at Autozone yesterday, there's been a additive out for a while, that turns Dexron into ATF4. .. Type F Im not sure of.
I was gonne run Dex III after the gasket/ speedo gear change, but got to thinking, since the Dex VI that came out of it looked new still, I just returned the Dexron for the $60.00, That gasket IS the best one Ive used in my 36 yrs of owning these cars.. Was only $20 too.

From top of CAP, or dipstick tube to tip should be 18-3/4"
I recently JB Welded mine back together, didnt come apart, but got tired of the "Wiggly" rubber gasket & cap. Worked well!

Funny, ya fix ONE thing, (Oh! BEST Trans Gasket I've ever used), and now to change out OIL PAN gasket... Uugh.
Nature of the Beest.

I did learn another thing, 727 big block transmossion pans will apparently ALWAYS leak.. lol No mattet what gasket you use. Next time it's Indian Head gasket sealer time. I think the damn case is warped.
