I just picked up a 727 core from a 1978 Truck and am wondering if anyone knows the good, bad, and ugly
on the innards? Couldn't pass on the price of $150.00. I plan on shelving it and s-l-o-w-l-y getting parts for
it. So, what's different between a 79 truck trans and an HP trans? Thanks Guys!

79 started with lock up converters. Right now who knows whats inside a 50 year old case.

This truck 727 doesn't happen to be one that you used for mock up is it?? :poke: or was that one ****? lol

Trucks have always been beefier than passenger cars. As far as internals go, there are too many variables involved to guess at but, it will probably be a good core.

I had one in my 70 Bee, but it was still mated to the '77 400 that was in the van with it.

I didn't notice any exterior, or mounting differences.

Naaaaa, I saw this one on FleBay and it was in Lombard on Alma Ave. I'm keeping yours safe
in case you or I need it in an emergency!!! 2W Drive. PK4028826. 1978. Not a lockup. Just
wondering about things like the front pump, valve body and planets. Not going to touch it for
a while.

4028826 is a car transmission 1978 Chrysler with a 440.

My camper van is a B200, which is a 3/4 ton truck I assume. Just had the 727 out and apart. But I would not know what I am looking at. Other than it was quite clean inside.
Only worked on the valve body things, not the big stuff inside.

Rebuild it and use it if you need it Paulie!

Guy told me it came out of a truck and it had a rear mount on it that I had never seen. I'll check the vin stamp later.

Yes the truck extension housings are different and beefier. Good for racing. But don't have the console shift rod bracket mounts

I have a truck 727 in my GTX. That's what came with my car. Off the top of my head it has 4 pinion planetaries and a 3.8 ratio kick down lever. I can't remember if it had an extra friction.

All 727 transmissions have intended uses and torque capacities. That dictates what is inside it. Some truck transmissions in light duty D100 or D150 trucks would still have three pinion rear planetary gear set and only three frictions in one of the clutch packs.

Any 727 with a 4 plate direct clutch will easly handle 700hp. The number of planet gears isn't an issue. The splines of the front planet carrier will fail way before a 3 pin planety gear. We've run 3 pin rear planets to 850hp with zero failure. A 78 will have a 3 ring input shaft and pump. As long as the two parts are used together you won't have an issue. I'd suggest a TF 2 shift kit, 3.8 or 4.2 KD lever. Take the front servo apart, remove the inner spring. Shim it solid with two extra #3 (input to output) bronze thrust washers. Drill a .060" lube hole that intesects the rear return line under the rear roller inner race, Amazon 46RH deep pan with a filter spacer, Borg Warner, Rabestos, or Alto frictions, and a good front band. (transpartsonline is a good source for quality parts at a good price). Properly assembled this combo will live a long time behind 700hp.

727 Truck or car are basically the same. light duty truck could still have 3 pinion, 3 clutch drum.
