727 upshift problems in my 67 gtx

I have had the car for 4 years...Slowly building her up...Just went through the tranny...Put in all the goodies from tsr..Red clutches kevalr bands...Tranns go 2 shift kit and a 2400 stall tci converter...`Just got it back toghther today...Runs good betwen 1 and 2...Up shift and down shift...No third gear though...My buddy tells me to get the lokar kick down set up on and it will cure my problems...He,s also the guy that helped me on the rebuild....Is this teh root of my problems?

here is what i would do. above the shift cable arm is the throttle arm. take a piece of wire and wire that all the way fwd. should be a spring on it to hold it fwd. that controls the pressure in the line. the more that is pushed back the more pressure it puts on the opposite side of your shift valves. governer pressure or in simpler terms the heart of the hydraulic system has to overcome throttle pressure for an upshift to make the shift valve open. if you have alot of throttle pressure on the side of the shift valve and you cannot get enough pressure on the opposite side it will NOT shift. i cant remember if all the way back towards the back of the car is full throttle pressure or all the way up. try it both ways and just hold it with a piece of wire. you will not hurt anything. one way you will have to crank the engine up pretty high for an upshift and the other way it should shift real easy. if you do not have a throttle pressure cable id take a piece of wire and hold it right in the middle. that also controls how much pressure is on the clutch plates too. if that dont do it i would say your problem could be a siezed 2-3 shift valve or possibly a messed up governer. probably shift valve though. hope this helps.

The cable arm was wired all the way back when I got the car...So for the test run I did the same wired it all the way toward the rear of the car...All the way back is wot....I,ll gonna install the lokar cable tomorrow after work...Thanks for the info....It seems to make sense the way you described it....

no problem man. **** like that can drive you crazy. so all the way back is wide open throttle. what that does is jack up line pressure and put all kinds of pressure on the opposite side of the shift valves which in return takes alot of rpms to get governer pressure high enough to force the shift valves open. glad i could help

The guy who helped you rebuild it does'nt know how to adjust the kickdown linkeage?
thats's scary!

it's really very simple,1st, you manually hold the throttle lever on the carb all the way wide open,2nd you hold the kickdown linkeage all the way back,towards the firewall,now place the slot on the kickdown linkeage,on the pin on the carb,you should adjust it so the back of the slot is just touching the pin, you're done!

oh,and make sure the car isn't running first!

this will work provided you have the proper linkeage, some modfication may be needed.
