I just picked up a 73 Satellite with a bone stock 318 and 727. What i'm considering is dropping the B series 400 i have into it with the appropriate 727 behind it, and after poking around the engine bay a bit (this is my first b body, and only my second mopar so still figuring some stuff out) I'm wondering if the 400 will clear the power steering gear box, looks pretty tight quarters in there with even just the small block. any other tips on the subject would also be appreciated as well :).

you will need:

- a schumacher SB to BB motor mount kit

- to elongate your wires that lead to your coil

- new exhaust, or just fix the front to fit the bb manifolds

- may need a different throttle bracket, matters on what you do

- may look at a larger radiator

You do NEED new motor mounts... not a bad idea though... swaps are really easy on the b bodies and its a close fit with the power steering but it should fit just fine (i had to bend my headers a bit so they didn't rub.) Everything else you can probably make but a new radiator is almost a must.

if you don't get changeover mounts, grab a big block k-member....they came from the factory with big blocks...should be just fine clearance-wise

Aren't the inner fenders different for SB and BB cars in 73-74?

Someone put a 383 in my SB Charger and beat the hell out of the inners.

They are, the SB car has an inspection plate on the passengers inner fender and the BB cars have a large cut out covered by a rubber flap in the same spot.

You can fit a BB into a SB car with out changing the K-frame or mounts BUT! you must use a center sump pan and heat it and tamp the front of the sump back about 1 and 1/2 inches to clear the K-frame but you will still have to modd your headders to clear the steering joint as well as hammer the pass side inner fender to clear the headder.I have one car set up this way and one with the Schumaucher mounts. If you have the time and a can get a BB K-frame I'd go that way.Or just sell the car and buy a BB car lol.

Ive got a set of brand new never used Schumacher SB-BB 73-up spool mounts if your interested!
