74 Charger Steering Column Rattle

Hi
I have a 1974 Dodge Charger
With power steering automatic
Shift on column no tilt column.
I have a rattle and looseness
At the bottom of column shift
Rod and lower shaft.
What needs to be replaced
Before I remove and tear it
Down. What is available in
Repair parts kits etc.
Any help and info would be
Greatly appreciated.

Is it loose where the shift lever attaches to the column? Can you post a picture?

The looseness is at the bottom
Of the column. The lower shaft
And shift lever at bottom
Of column is loose.
Their is a rattle repair kit on
ebay it's just a spring and something that looks like a hose
Clamp would this fix problem?
I know the sell a lower bearing
Also. The column just rattles at
Idle. I would just like to know
What to get prior to tear down.
I bought the Charger new in
1974.

What do ya mean by shoes
Is that something in the bottom
End of the column?
I looked at different views of
This column their is not much
In lower end but a bearing
And sort of a plastic color
That I think holds lower bearing.

See above: The internals could be worn out...

That part of column is new.
Their is no play in that.
I replaced that when I
Replaced the steering box.
The looseness is in the end of
The steering column at the bottom end where the shaft and
Shift lever come out of the bottom of the column.

Assume you assembled it correctly and greased it. Was the noise there BEFORE that was replaced? Is there a bushing for the rod that goes to the column for shifting looks like this?

No the rattle started a long time
After I rebuilt the coupler.
I think that bushing you sent
Me a link for is right on I
Appreciate that. The rattle is
On the bottom of column.
The shift lever that attaches the
Column to the transmission shift
Linkage and the bottom of main
Steering column shaft moves has
To much play. I suspected some
Kind of plastic part like this.
I will order this from Vans.
I really appreciated your help
I providing a source for this.

Hi sorry I did not get back to
You sooner I had to sort this out
In 74 they changed the column
The lower bearing is part of the
Shift tube see attached photo.
Do you know if this is available
Or has anyone modified a earlier
Bearing to work?

Thanks for your reply.
My column is different
They changed it in 74.
The bearing is part of the
Shift tube. So I would have
To get the entire shift tube.
I thought some one might
Have come up with a workaround replacing the worn
Out plastic bearing on the shift
Tube with one of the 73 or older
Plastic bearings. It's never
Easy LOL. I would be glad to pay
85 for the right part.
I just want to get the part before
I tear down the column.
Mine has a lot of play and rattles.I believe the Chrysler
Part number for the shift tube/bearing assy is 3748247.
