Alternator? Coil? Battery?
  • So issue is, whenever I start up first thing in the morning and put it in gear mostly reverse it runs pretty rough and almost even "chugs" if I dont let it warm up enough. Dont have too much of the issue if I back it in the night before so I just pull out in the morning. (So to speak)
Yesterday I wired up a modern car radio an amp, 1 sub, and just two speakers. Nothing major just wanted a something to play my Ipod or radio on
( I have the original AM that works great in it with one speaker, so I wired everything in the trunk and radio deck is under the rear seat along with the speakers with the sub in the trunk to keep interior original)

  • anyways the problem is now much more prevalent and is worse than before I am thinking it may be the alternator but not positive. Was wondering what Y'alls thoughts were?

Alt can't keep up (not strong enough) try a cap or bigger alt or and bat

Thanks thats what I was thinking. Ever wired up a cap before? never done one myself not quite sure on the process, Ill have to google it.

Get at least a 2 Farad capacitor with a Digital voltage readout. Wiring then is rediculously easy, its in like with the rest of the power source to your amp, ground from chassis to cap. Than from cap, to the amp. And battery positive from distribution on firewall etc. To cap, than from cap to the amp.
(Not that i totally approve there being a "stereo" in a old car)

Also, i would havw your alt. Tested for its output. That would tell you if your ignition isnt getting the power it needs. And im sure your light dim
Good luck with it
